Manchester’s renowned yogi and motivational coach, Claudia Mirallegro founder of Mirallegro Yoga XO talks us through her Sunday evening beauty rituals, which involve transforming her bathroom into an at-home spa using a tried and tested arsenal of plant-based, vegan and free-from beauty products including Herbivore, Chantecaille, Omorovicza and more.

The Wind Down

Sundays are very specific for me. It’s my time to unwind; I get off my phone, grab a set of delicious pyjamas, turn on my salt lamp, play some slow jams, slow cook a nut roast, stick on my essential oils diffuser…and reset! This process usually begins around 5pm. During this time, I’ll also prep my schedule for the week ahead, from cooking to reading to meditation. It’s all there in my Google calendar. I think doing this helps hold me accountable, it keeps me on time, encourages me to use my time more efficiently and allows everything to flow smoothly. I’m all about cultivating a flow state, you see.

The Routine

My Sunday evening beauty routine starts with a hot, steamy bath. I’ll add tons of Herbivore Pink Himalayan Bath Salts to the water, light my Damselfly Good Vibes Only Candle, tie fresh eucalyptus to the shower head and voilà! My whole bathroom feels like a bougie spa. It seriously transports me to another place. After a hectic week, I find that transforming my space into a calming atmosphere, complete with delicious fragrances, really helps to relieve any anxiety and promote peaceful, calming energy.

When it comes to skincare, I’m consistent with my routine and for me consistency is key. A good morning routine starts the night before and it’s the same with skincare – you know you’re on the right track when your skin feels all soft, moisturised and glowy in the morning. I’ll start by using a replenishing exfoliating cream. Chantecaille Bamboo and Hibiscus Exfoliating Cream to be specific. It helps shed dead skin cells as well as improve the appearance of any imperfections and wrinkles. Then I’ll use  Omorovicza Gold Hydralifting Mask – I’m telling you, there’s something about this stuff. It really is gold. It firms the skin while plumping up the elasticity which I just love. Then I’ll use Odacité Youthful Glow Serum – it’s the perfect nightcap to wind down. My skin eats it up and craves the product now. I’ll add three drops of it into my Goldfaden Md Regenerative Night Cream. These two combined are a match made in dreamy skin heaven. The combination ticks every box: glowy- check ✓, hydrated – check ✓ dewy- check ✓, tight- check ✓. These are the goals I am looking to achieve with my skincare routine. However, the most important thing for me is to check is the nitty-gritty; all my products must be plant-based, vegan and free from parabens and sulphates, which you can be sure that all the above are.

After my bath I can’t help but smother myself in Herbivore Rose Quartz Illuminating Body Oil – it’s botanical magic. I swear it’s life-changing and a few nut-sized drops really go a long way. First things first, it imbues skin with a subtle shimmer so when I wake up, my skin actually shines. Second thing to note is it’s made from rose quartz, which is just so healing and beautifying. Cleopatra even used to soak in a bath with rose quartz crystals! Before I pop downstairs to binge watch the new season of Killing Eve, I apply Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil to the lengths and ends of my hair while it’s still damp and then I let my locks dry naturally. This oil provides loads of nourishment and since my hair is pretty dry and damaged, I’ll use it a few times a week. If I’m up exceptionally early on Monday, I’ll pop Chantecaille Energising Eye Recovery Mask  on for an hour while I watch TV. They help to smooth, tighten, hydrate and reduce fine lines and wrinkles and I really notice the difference when I use these.

Bedtime

Sleep is one of the most healing things you can do for your body. I need at least eight hours. But here’s the thing, I find it trés difficult to unwind…especially when I have a phone in my face all the time. To help with this, I’ve started using the screen time function and I try to stick to some downtime between 9pm and 9am. It’s a game changer. Instead of scrolling, I’ll brew a camomile tea, take my better me, better brain supplement (I’m actually floored at how well this works), turn off all heaters –  studies show your brain needs to drop its temperature 2-3 °F in order to sleep, spray some Mio Liquid Yoga around my bedroom and on my bed linen and dab Dr Dennis Gross Under Eye Cream onto the delicate skin under my eyes. I stick my Headspace app on and if I’m going all out, I’ll apply Chantecaille Bio Lifting Mask and leave it on overnight. It contains plant extracts and minerals, so it allows for a slow release of moisture over the hours that you’re asleep. You wake up with the softest and smoothest skin EVER!

Monday Morning

My alarm is set for around 5.45am – this gives me enough time to grab my Herbivore Jade Roller from the fridge and then get back into bed for five sweet minutes while rolling this soothing, cooling crystal around my face (the key is to always work from the inside of the face then go outwards. And always roll up, never down). this is skincare < mindcare < selfcare all in one. It’s so rejuvenating and repairs all your cells while fighting inflammation. It’s an ancient Chinese practice and it just works! Around 6am I’ll be up, mixing a vegan protein shake together, throwing my Lululemon’s on and ready to float out the door for my first yoga class of the day.
