Susanne Kaufmann On The Importance Of Wellbeing and The Power Of Nature

Susanne Kaufmann Wellness Routine | Space NK
The wellness industry is thriving. Despite some of us enjoying an enforced slower pace of life during the Covid lockdown era, it’s 2023 and we’re busier than ever and wrung out with stress. Magnesium milk soaks, calming fragrances and indulgent body lotions are high in demand as we all try to steal a couple of minutes here and there to reset and recentre. Taking a moment to yourself is the greatest luxury.

For years, Susanne Kaufmann has been championing the benefits of taking a holistic approach to life and transforming mundane tasks into calming rituals. From the soothing Bath Oil For The Senses to the multitasking Hair & Body Wash, Susanne’s natural beauty line draws inspiration from the Austrian Alps and uses herbal blends to help us reset and rebalance.

“I believe beauty is based on inner balance, health, and well-being,” Susanne tells us. “This is the foundation of our product philosophy.” With her latest product offering, Susanne Kaufmann has partnered with Swedish fragrance brand, Byredo to create Bregenzerwald Body Oil and Bregenzerwald Fragrance Oil.

We took the opportunity to ask Susanne about the collaboration and how she approaches wellbeing herself, including her stress-relieving trick.

What Is ‘Wellness’?

In Austria, we have deep roots in a sustainable and holistic lifestyle. It’s about finding balance and looking at the whole picture. I carry this approach throughout my life, maintaining a lifestyle that dedicates the importance of healthy food, regular exercise, a positive mindset, and effective skincare that achieves optimal well-being. All while being respectful to the planet.

What Does Your Wellness Routine Look Like

I usually take a bath in the evening to unwind and avoid using any digital devices before going to sleep. I will apply Susanne Kaufmann Moisturising Mask, £50.00 while I relax in the bath. Afterwards, I finish with a thick layer of Susanne Kaufmann Body Butter, £60.00 mixed with one of our body oils. This helps to deeply moisturise the skin and provide an extra layer of nourishment. Scalp massage is also great for self-care – Susanne Kaufmann Refining Scalp & Body Scrub, £75.00 creates a relaxing, spa-like ritual.

How Do You Reset In Stressful Moments?

The first thing I do is head out into the forest for a walk to clear my mind and reset. If I’m in the city, I will find the nearest park and spend some time there. Being in nature gives me great clarity.

What’s the best wellness tip anyone has given you?

I was brought up in a culture where taking care of your skin, hair, and body was always of the utmost importance. But what I’ve found most important is sleep – as this is a base for a good life. So, this means a calming routine before bed is essential.

How Did The Byredo X Susanne Kaufmann Collaboration Come About?

For me personally, this collaboration is about finally fulfilling a wish of mine and a lot of our customers, to create a fragrance. But importantly, this is also about a collaboration with a friend, Ben Gorham. I think it’s a breath of fresh air because it combines a high-performance body product, which has all the benefits of skincare, but also on top of it, a fantastic scent, created by a fine fragrance expert.

Inspired by and named after my home region, the Bregenzerwald, the oils are infused with the delicate notes of jasmine and subtle hints of sweet fig, to form an energising yet comforting scent, evoking the feeling of strolling through a serene forest.

Why Did You Choose A Body Oil and Fragrance Oil?

Ben and I wanted to celebrate the sensorial connection between skincare and fragrance, and bring together my expertise in natural skincare with Ben’s knowledge of the transportive might of fragrance. The Bregenzerwald Body Oil is developed with natural plant oils from meadowfoam seed and apricot kernel to deeply moisturise the skin. I recommend applying it to damp skin after a shower or bath. The roll-on Bregenzerwald Fragrance Oil is a more intense experience for on-the-go. I love to use them together to immerse skin and senses in the freshness of the Alps throughout the day.
