Fake A Skin Glow

glowing skin

Fresh, natural-looking, glowing skin is top of every beauty wish list, but sometimes too many late nights, hormones and even the weather can mean skin looks dull and tired no matter what. For those days (and nights), the fastest, easiest thing to do is fake it.

Start With Hydration

Dehydrated skin always lacks glow, and surprisingly, all skin types can suffer, including oily as dehydration relates to the level of water present in skin, not oil. Signs include: makeup going patchy throughout the day (as skin drinks up anything applied to it), looking grey and tired, and more fine lines than usual (water helps to plump these out). In addition, as the weather cools down, skin often becomes dehydrated thanks to the lethal combination of cold air and central heating. Combat this by adding a hydrating serum into your routine, Drunk Elephant B Hydra Serum is lightweight and pulls water into the skin to ensure it is plumped and juicy. Moisturising with a facial oil will also boost glow by instantly slaying dry patches and nourishing the skin, try Eve Lom Radiance Facial Oil which also contains vitamin C to help counteract dullness.

A Glowy Primer

If you’re looking for an all-over glow that will disguise fatigue and counteract dullness, then try applying a light-reflecting primer straight after your facial oil or moisturiser. As well as anchoring makeup, many primers contain light-reflecting particles which blur imperfections and give the complexion a lit-from-within finish. We recommend Becca Backlight Priming Filter, a smooth, lightly tinted cream that contains crushed pearls and can be used all over skin. Available in three slightly different tints, Hourglass Ambient Light Correcting Primer works to even out and unify the complexion with a radiant, but subtle finish.

Wave Away Imperfections

If a full coverage finish isn’t for you, but you wouldn’t say no to glow, then try a radiance-boosting concealer. Ideal for disguising dark circles, redness around the nose and marionette lines (fine lines around the mouth), a concealer like this combines pigment with light-reflecting boosters for a perfected yet radiant finish just where you want it. We like By Terry Touche Veloutée with its handy brush applicator and light-reflecting, flattering formula; it’s also the perfect size for on-the-go touch ups. For denser coverage, we recommend Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer which combines light-diffusing technology with a buildable texture.

Magic Powders

When you want to look radiant, but not shiny or dewy, try a luminous matte powder. A combination of soft pearlescent particles and ultra-fine filters means that these powders create an ethereal glow. We love Space NK bestseller Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder which comes in six shades and acts as an instant pearly spotlight for skin. Another favourite is Delilah Pure Light Compact Illuminating Powder, a blend of rose gold and soft peach shades that instantly brightens when applied all over the complexion but can also be used purely to highlight on eyelids, cheekbones and décolleté.

Fast-Track To Radiance

A shortcut to cut-glass cheekbones, highlighters give the face dimension and definition with a reflective finish. We love RMS Living Luminizer, a 100% natural blend of coconut oil and beeswax that swipes on with fingertips to quickly give skin an instant, flattering glow. For a more dramatic look, try applying a couple of drops of Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops directly on top of your finished makeup. The shimmering liquid gives an intense sheen, but for a subtler glow simply mix with moisturiser or foundation and apply all over.
