The Wind Down

I start to wind down around 8pm after I’ve put my two girls to bed. I love to take some time out on Sunday evenings and try to turn my phone off until Monday morning to focus on myself and the week ahead. After I’ve taken a bath, something I only have time for on Sundays, I jot down a to-do list for the week. I find putting pen to paper really helps me to switch off. My beauty regime usually takes a back seat during the week due to a hectic working mum schedule, so Sunday evenings are my time to pamper.

The Routine

First up, I light a Diptyque candle, usually their Eucalyptus Scented Candle, and run a bath. I add a few splashes of Cowshed’s Knackered Cow Relaxing Bath & Body Oil as it is packed with essential oils and lavender which is really calming. Sometimes I will add Herbivore’s Calm Bath Salts. They help to refocus the mind, moisturise the skin and they smell divine – the ideal Sunday treat.

I prefer to listen to podcasts as opposed to music, and I tend to choose something inspiring and uplifting. Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations has been a firm favourite lately. Whilst the bath is filling up, I use Eve Lom’s Cleanser to remove my makeup. My usual skincare regime is fairly stripped back compared to most, since I am very fortunate with my skin. I do however, like to use a sheet mask on a Sunday to give my skin an extra treat and have been reaching for Patchology’s FlashMasque Hydrate a lot. It gives my skin an instant rush of hydration and it is really soothing whilst I soak in the bath. I follow with Patchology’s Moodpatch ‘Down Time’ Calming Tea-Infused Aromatherapy Eye Gels to smooth and soothe the eye area.

Whilst in the bath, I wash my hair with Bouclème’s Curl Cleanser before following with their Conditioner.  This range is so well suited to my afro hair since it contains lots of nourishing natural ingredients which leaves my hair feeling hydrated. I only wash my hair once a week, so I like to leave the conditioner on for the duration of my bath. Once I’m out, I use RODIN by RECINE Luxury Hair Oil as a leave-in treatment and then comb through Bouclème’s Curl Cream. It strengthens my hair as well as defining my natural curls. I never apply heat to my hair, so I roughly plait it and allow it to dry overnight.

My go-to body moisturiser is Ameliorate’s Transforming Body Cream which I apply all-over, post-bath. Not only does it keep unwanted dryness at bay, something my darker skin often suffers with, it also leaves my skin looking more radiant. I reach for my dressing gown and then refocus on my face. I apply Dr Dennis Gross’ C + Collagen Brighten and Firm Serum and work into my skin using Herbivore’s Jade Facial Roller. It really works to reduce puffiness and maximise the efficiency of my serum. I then follow with a hydrating moisturiser. At the moment, I adore KORA Organics’ Hydrating Moisturizer as it is enriched with hyaluronic acid to keep moisture locked in.

Bedtime

I really need my sleep – 8 hours ideally – so I try to get into bed by 10pm. I recently joined a book club so have been dedicating half an hour every evening to read. My latest is Sophie Kinsella’s ‘I Owe You One’. Reading really helps me to switch off and prepare me for a restful night. I sip water throughout the evening as I find this also helps me to awake feeling fresh.

Monday Morning

My husband gets up at 5:30am which always wakes me as I am such a light sleeper since becoming a mum. I usually drop back off and then get woken by the girls around 6:30am. They are my alarm, but I feel very fortunate to then spend 30 minutes or so having precious cuddle time with them both. Once we are all up, I get them sorted for school and quickly jump in the shower whilst they are eating breakfast. I tend to forgo most beauty steps and just quickly wash my face with Caudalie’s Instant Foaming Cleanser and apply Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense CC Cream. I wear SPF every day and find this CC cream ideal for everyday wear. Makeup never happens before the school run but if I have meetings or am off out for the day, I will head home and apply it after.
