Floral-Inspired Beauty

Floral Beauty

March 20th marks the first official day of spring and if you look around, you’ll start to notice a bevy of mood-lifting flowers popping up and bursting into bloom. Not only a universal symbol of cheer and celebration, flowers are also recognised for their beneficial beauty properties, from restorative to anti-ageing, and have long since been used to enhance beauty products. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a bunch of our favourite floral-inspired beauty picks. Plus, with Mother’s Day just around the corner, why not show your mum how much you care with a luxurious treat from our floral-inspired gift guide.

The Benefits of Restorative Rose

Rose oil, extracted from the petals of the rose flower, is known for its ability to soothe and re-balance. Skincare infused with rose oil such as Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask and Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist are often positioned to counteract redness, calm irritation and reduce inflammation. Particularly effective for those with extremely dry, eczema-prone or very sensitive skin, rose oil nourishes cells by flooding them with moisture. “Rose oil is renowned for its hydrating properties and rose wax is particularly beneficial for providing skin with moisture,” says Kendra Flockhart, Sales and Education Executive at Darphin.

Rose water is a by-product of rose oil and possesses restorative properties, which helps to refresh and revitalise dry, tired complexions. Plus, it’s an astringent and so is often used in toners to help tighten the appearance of pores and increase skin’s suppleness. Lorna Hura, National Training Manager at Sisley explains how, “the aqueous (water) extract from the rose is extremely refreshing and has softening benefits to the skin and is used in Sisley Floral Toner.

The Benefits of Balancing Lavender

A member of the mint family, lavender oil is extracted from the purple-blue bud that is well known for its relaxing, therapeutic scent. “Lavender is frequently used in aromatherapy for its various benefits, but its smell alone is enough to lull you into a state of total relaxation,” says Lorna. However, it also has very powerful anti-inflammatory properties, which make it perfect for preventing and healing blemishes and acne. An antibacterial, lavender helps to eradicate the bacteria that can penetrate pores and lead to congestion, and it also works to reduce redness, blotchy patches and heal scarring.

The Benefits of Youth-Boosting Jasmine

Jasmine essential oil is extracted from the highly fragrant jasmine flower. Regarded for its anti-ageing properties, it helps to restore the suppleness and softness of skin promoting radiance and combating fine lines and wrinkles. “Jasmine has rejuvenating properties and it instantly renews radiance and revives clarity for youthfully smoother and softer looking skin,” says Kendra. Suitable for all skin types, jasmine is frequently used for the treatment of dry and eczema-prone skin.
