From art director at a children’s book company to interiors stylist and illustrator, Zeena Shah is a busy woman. One quick glance at her Instagram will also show you that she also has an incredible eye for uplifting colours. Whether it’s Millennial pink, powdery lilac or mint green, Zeena’s flat and wardrobe is a smash up of mood-boosting shades that can’t help make you smile.

With everything else that’s going on at the moment, a lot of us could do with a shot of positivity, so we spoke to Zeena about her beauty routine and how she incorporates colour. Given the current climate face masks were a central topic and Zeena shared how she’s tweaked her routine recently too…

It Starts With Skincare

I like to use makeup that emphasises my features rather than covers them up – no heavy foundations here. It means my skincare has to deliver. I love natural beauty and clean skincare. Sunday Riley’s C.E.O Rapid Flash Brightening Serum is a go-to for boosting my glow.

Makeup-Wise, It’s All About The Eyes

I’ve definitely upped my eyebrow game since face masks have come into play. Making sure they’re a bit more plucked and I finish them with a slick of brow gel. I have started wearing a bit more NARS Climax Mascara too. I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting the eyeshadows out for the supermarket soon.

Have Fun With Colour

I love to add a pop of colour in my eye makeup, lipstick and cheeks, especially at the moment. I also like to mix up my makeup mediums. Playing around with eyeshadows on the apples of my cheeks and mixed with lip balm is something I really love doing. I often only have 15 minutes to put on my makeup, so it’s always with products that are quick and easy to use. If it’s the weekend and I have a bit more time I’ll go all out with my eyes mixing multiple colours and eyeliner.

Amp Up Your Glow

It’s definitely my ‘glow’ I’m often asked about. Even though I’m wearing a mask, it’s still the foundation block of my makeup look. The trick is a good highlighter and to not be afraid to mix up products. I use the back of my hand as a palette almost like I would when painting. I’m loving the Oskia Nutri-Bronze Adaptive Sheer Tinted Serum right now. I mix it with my NARS Pure Radiance Tinted Moisturiser and apply all over my skin for the perfect glow.

Don’t Forget Your Nails

Mask or not, the easiest way to add a pop of colour to your look and give yourself a boost of colour positivity is with your nails. It’s also really therapeutic to spend some time out painting your nails. Patience is key and it’s one of those things that needs a slower and steady hand. I find it easier if I rest the base of my painting hand on a surface, so always paint them on a table rather than in the air. You’ll notice the difference immediately as you paint them.

I also like to set up my manicure space so grab a towel, your nail kit and all of your nail polishes and go through all the steps you would do at a nail bar. I’ve been having virtual nail painting sessions with friends, it’s so much fun.

Find Your Scent

I don’t leave the house without a spritz of Byredo Rose Of No Man’s Land. It never fails to brighten up my mood and completes my look.
