Together At Home With Ruth Crilly

After four weeks of being at home becoming the new norm, the model, writer and mother of two Ruth Crilly has learnt to grab five minutes where she can and make the most of them. Ruth refers to them as ‘beautifying moments’ and with most of us in similar boats, this week she shares her routine for looking and feeling glam in less than 10 minutes…

Step 1: Tie Your Hair Up

The first thing I do when I don’t feel very energised but want to feel a bit more polished is tie my hair back. I’m generally quite rubbish with my hair, but this never fails to make me feel better. The trick to tying long hair back and making it intentional and purposeful, is spraying down the flyaways with hairspray

Step 2: Apply A Light Base

Starting with my base, By Terry’s Hyaluronic Hydra Foundation SPF30 is quite a new discovery for me.  It is so lightweight and gives a really flawless perfected finish. You just need a few drops buffed in with a brush for a light coverage. You can also build it up in the areas that need a little bit more.

Step 3: Add Some Definition

I’m not really a contour person, but Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow is a happy medium. It has a contouring powder, which you sweep just under your cheekbone and it just immediately shapes your face. I also dust it across my temples and under my jawline. If any of it feels wrong or looks too much, just go over it with your foundation brush and buff it out. To add highlight, I love Becca’s Glow Glaze Stick because it looks a little more dewy and plumper than a powder.

Step 4: Amplify Your Eyes

For the past few months I’ve been using Nars Voyageur Eyeshadow Palette and I simply blend the copper-toned shimmery shadow (middle, top in the palette) all over my eyelids. Then, I add lashings of Hourglass Caution Extreme Mascara – I really like the travel-size one because I find the wand is easier to control. For my brows I love another Hourglass product, the Arch Brow Volumizing Fibre Gel. I just run the brush up through my brows to make them look more groomed.

Step 5: Choose Your Lip Colour

At this point, I choose which way I want to go with my lips. For a juicy nude, I like By Terry’s Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge in Nudissimo. If I want full glamour, I love Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick in Rouge Electrique. They’re really pigmented, lightweight and long-lasting.

Done! Instant glamour and a lipstick that will withstand any amount of shouting. I hope you’ve enjoyed that little bit of escapism. Now I’m going to try and home-school my kids aka put Paw Patrol on…
