Make yourself memorable with Byredo Eau de Parfum 1996, a scent inspired by the unique and individual qualities that make us who we are. Created by Ben Gorham in response to a photograph by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, this scent represents an interpretation of the duality inherent in cross-cultural encounters and cosmopolitan living.
Gorham spent some time traveling in India, where his mother was born, and all his perfumes have a spicy quality. This one is no exception. Byredo Eau de Parfum 1996 opens with notes of black pepper and juniper which instantly mark it out as something distinctive. The romantic aromas of violet and iris root combine with the depth of black amber to alluring effect.
With vanilla to seal the deal, this is a scent nobody could forget.
A complex, spicy and highly distinctive scent inspired by an Inez van Lamsweerde photograph, Byredo Eau de Parfum 1996 is designed to linger in the memory.

BYREDO was founded in 2006 by Ben Gorham. Ben began to be intrigued by scent and memory after travelling to his mother's hometown in India, where he was stirred by the aromas of spices and incense. Inspired by this trip, BYREDO's scented candles and perfumes have been developed with an understated approach, using simple composition of the highest quality raw materials.

I bought this Byredo scent without smelling it after reading the reviewBody and loving my other Byredo scents, which was a gamble but so glad I did as it’s absolutely gorgeous!
It is a strong fragrance so if you like light scents I would avoid, and has amazing staying power. On me this fragrance dried down fairly quickly to leave a strong vanilla scent which I loved.
Never smelt another fragrance like it which I see as a bonus!

Lovely Strong Fragrance
This fragrance is very strong, with a powerful Patchouli note.
The scent opens with an almost dry textured Juniper note, which slowly involves into incense and leather, followed by patchouli.
The fragrance is long lasting on my skin, and can last days on fabrics. This is an unusual fragrance, and one I'd definitely recommend trying before committing to buy a large bottle.

Maybe it’s just a case of good marketing but this perfume really does take me back to the 90s! The perfume is supposedly inspired by the soft focus photo by Inez & Vinoodh that is enclosed within and for me the scent really does evoke the same feeling as the picture. Somehow the iris, leather and patchouli remind me of heroin chic and grunge music and the beautiful follows of youth. Really nice and totally unique.

Heady and most unusual
I received a sample of this and absolutely everyone asked me what fragrance I was wearing. It’s really different, leathery and woody and exceptionally powerful. It’s the absolute opposite of a summery, floral Eau de toilette. I liked it but it’s way too much in the warmer weather.

Lovely but beware!
I like but do not love Byredo as a brand. Its bottles are chic, but the scents are hit and miss. For reference, Bal d'Afrique, Sundazed and Mojave Ghost are my other purchases. This is definitely worth having if you are a collector, but it is MUCH stronger than others. If you get flashbacks when you smell patchuli, beware!
