Here's Our Verdict On Drunk Elephant's NEW Bora Barrier Moisturiser

Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream review | Space NK
With the super moisturising Protini Polypeptide Cream and ultra-soothing Lala Retro Whipped Cream, you would be forgiven for thinking Drunk Elephant has a moisturiser for all skin types. Those with skin on the drier side might disagree though. Fortunately, the brand has formulated the new Bora Barrier Repair Cream with them in mind.

Rich in ceramides and lipids, this moisturiser is designed not only to hydrate but to strengthen your skincare barrier and lock in the hydration. So much so, the brand promises up to 24 hours of moisture, which is music to the ears of anyone with dry skin, especially throughout the winter months. Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream also includes zinc to help soothe any irritation that can accompany severe dryness too.

We asked the Space NK team to review the moisturiser for a month to find out if this face cream could be the best moisturiser for dry skin. While our social coordinator, Lauren has dry to combination skin, our senior digital content coordinator Joseph is our resident expert on rich, hydrating creams. Read on to see their verdict on Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream.

Moisturisers with a thick texture that make my skin feel hydrated and nourished and leave me with a glow get my vote all year round. The face creams I go back to time and time again are the ones that keep my skin feeling moisturised all day. I started reviewing the Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream in December when my skin was drier than usual because of the cold weather.

Initially I was unsure on the scent as I usually use Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream and love a fragranced formula. The pump applicator got a five-star rating from the get-go because it dispenses the perfect amount of product. My skin didn’t look as dewy and radiant after using this formula compared to other moisturisers though. However, it did feel very soft and smooth.

Over the course of the month, my skin stayed clear with no breakouts or blemishes. This is a big bonus for me as I find some moisturisers hydrate but lead to breakouts. Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Cream was made for wintertime as the thick texture leaves your skin feeling so hydrated from morning until night and I would recommend it to anyone who loves the feel and finish of a rich moisturiser.

In terms of moisturisers, anything water-based or thin doesn’t work for me, my skin needs rich, thick face creams that seal in the hydration all day. When I started using Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream for the review it was peak winter, so my skin was very dry, particularly around my chin area where I had red patches.

While a lot of skincare brands say their moisturiser is for dry skin, they’re rarely as thick and nourishing as they promise. I am very pleased to say the Bora Barrier Repair Cream didn’t disappoint and is one of thickest moisturisers I have ever used – I love the consistency. It did take my skin a week or so to get used to this moisturiser, but it was extra dry before I started using it, so I wasn’t expecting an overnight miracle. Every time I used the Bora Barrier Repair Cream my skin felt nice and remained hydrated for most of the day.

I would say it took about two weeks to really notice a difference in my skin; it definitely felt less tight when I woke up in the mornings. Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream has earned a spot in my top three moisturisers and I will definitely keep using it.

Our Verdict On Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream

If you’ve got this far you don’t need us to tell you this face cream received great reviews from both testers. The ceramide-packed formula lives up to its promises and delivers long-lasting moisture and helps to soothe dry skin. It is worth considering your skin type though: “Drunk Elephant Bora Barrier Repair Cream is a moisturiser for very dry to dehydrated skin,” says Joseph. “I think anyone with combination or oily skin would struggle with the rich consistency.”

If you have combination skin, we recommend looking to the Protini Polypeptide Cream and for those with oily skin, you might find Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum, £ 45,00 provides enough hydration.

It is worth noting that like most other Drunk Elephant formulas, Bora Barrier Repair Cream can be mixed with other products from the brand with the exception of the SPF. Yes, that means you can mix in your Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Drops, £ 34,00 for a healthy, sunkissed glow or the bestselling Drunk Elephant B-Goldi Bright Drops, £ 34,00.

More From Drunk Elephant

While we’ve covered Drunk Elephant’s moisturisers, it is worth exploring Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser, £ 36,00 if you have dry skin. The nourishing balm helps to cleanse and remove makeup effortlessly without stripping your skin. Those with oily or acne-prone skin should look to the much-loved Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser, £ 15,00.

Another great product for dry skin is the Drunk Elephant Ceramighty™ AF Eye Balm, £ 54,00, which is jam-packed with ceramides to hydrate and revive dry, tired eyes.
