Primer Page 2

One of the original skincare and makeup hybrids, face primer is often the unsung hero of our makeup routines. Our advice? Never underestimate the power of a primer. From evening out your skin tone, minimising the look of pores and helping your makeup look last longer, to keeping your complexion hydrated and more, primer is that one post-skincare step that can make all the difference. Makeup artists love the NARS primer and the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter is ideal for a smooth and radiant canvas. We love the sculpting REFY Primer and pore-perfecting Hourglass Primer, too, and our edit has them all...

Your Questions, Answered

The first step in your makeup routine, a face primer is a base product that preps skin for makeup and acts as a film of protection between your skin and foundation.

Makeup primer can do lots for your makeup and your skin! From creating a smooth canvas for makeup to helping your foundation last longer, minimising the appearance of pores and keeping skin hydrated for hours on end, you’ll find there’s a primer for every makeup need as well as skin type and concern. For lasting hydration, Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer is a sure win. To conceal redness or fine lines and wrinkles, try the iconic Hourglass Primer.

The texture of a primer often resembles a moisturiser or serum, which is why it’s best to apply it with your fingers. A few minutes after your moisturiser (or SPF if you’re using it during the day), start by applying a pea-sized amount on the centre of your face and blend it outwards – focusing on areas like your T-zone or anywhere you have concerns. Allow it to set for a minute or two before applying the rest of your makeup.
