Game-Changing Summer Makeup Tips For Darker Skin Tones

As part of Space NK’s buying team it’s my job to source the latest and most exciting brands. This often means trying a lot of products. Over the years, I’ve discovered more than a handful of firm favourites and picked up some tricks to maximise their results. Here are my seven game-changing makeup tips for darker skin tones, including a couple of NEW beauty discoveries…

1

Rethink Your Base

I like to switch to a lighter base for the summer months and tend to gravitate towards tinted moisturiser as it’s super easy. The NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser in Polynesia is my current fave. It’s lightweight, but gives my skin a nice natural glow with just the right amount of coverage. This particular shade matches my summer tan really well too.

2

Amplify Your Eyes

I like to add a nice bronzed glow to my eyes, so I will swipe a gold shade across my lids or just in the corners on my tear ducts. Charlotte Tilbury Palette of Pops in Pillow Talk is great for this as all the colours flatter my skin tone really well.

Swap Your Gloss For An Oil

My latest discovery is the Oil Infused Lip Tints from NARS and I love them. The formula leaves my lips with a subtle glazed finish without being too shimmery. I sometimes pat some into the tops of my cheeks to act as a highlighter as well. Laguna is a gorgeous shade.

4

Never Skip Highlighter

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Topaz is my go-to highlighter. I’ve been using it religiously for the past six years and am yet to find anything that rivals it. In the summer, I’ll go for the liquid over the powder because it sit really well over tinted moisturiser when you buff in with a Beauty Blender.

Go Bright With Your Nails

We recently launched Nailberry and like a lot of people, I’ve really been enjoying doing my nails the past few months. My favourite shade is Pink Tulip, a vibrant pink that adds a great pop of colour to your look.

6

Invest In Your Mascara

Swap your waterproof mascara for a tubing formula – it’s smudge-proof and easy to remove. Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara has been a firm favourite for years. I like the slim brush as you can reach the base of your lashes easily.

Always Set Your Makeup

I like to finish my makeup all year round with a setting spray to hold it in place. Now that I have been wearing my Slip Face Mask whenever I venture out, a good setting spray helps to prevent any smudging. I’ve been loving the new mist from Hourglass.
