Why The Gisou Lip Oil Is SO Popular

Gisou Honey Infused Lip Oil Review | Space NK
We couldn’t be more excited to introduce Gisou at Space NK, but admittedly, it’s a brand that’s already been on our radar for some time. Thanks to its dedicated cult following on social media, we’ve seen Gisou go viral time and time again – most famously for its fan favourite Honey Infused Lip Oil. Given its raving reviews, and the fact that the love for the lip oil never wavers, it’s the one product that we’ve been most eager to try.

Packed with vitamin- and antioxidant-rich ingredients – from the brand’s trademark Mirsalehi Honey and hyaluronic acid to meadowfoam and jojoba seed oils – its non-sticky hydrating formula just as revered as the glazed, high-shine finish it gives. With a sheer tint of colour (or shimmer) on top, it’s a strong contender for the ultimate summer lip product. So, we asked four members of the Space NK team to put it to the test. Read on for their honest Gisou Honey Infused Lip Oil review.

When it comes to my lips, I love a glazed, glossy finish. I usually go for a lip gloss or thicker lip balm like Summer Fridays’ Lip Butter Balm as they tend to last for a while, so I was intrigued to see if the Gisou lip oil could match that staying power. I opted for the shade Glazed Plum, which I’d describe as relatively clear, but with a hint of shimmery pink.

The first thing I noticed when I applied the lip oil is that it didn’t feel sticky, which was pleasantly surprising. Actually, it made my lips look especially nourished. I also liked the subtle honey scent, and that it instantly gave a nice shine. As for the shimmer, I don’t like to go overboard with glitter, so I was glad that it was more understated and glossy than glittery. After a while, I noticed that the colour wasn’t as pink as it looks inside the bottle (it’s also less pigmented than it seems), but I often prefer a clear finish, so I was happy!

One thing to note is that colour only lasted around an hour before needing to be reapplied, but it did leave a little shine even after fading. I also adore the packaging – I think it’s so aesthetically pleasing, and the applicator allowed me to get even, smooth finish.

Overall, I’ll definitely incorporate the Gisou lip oil into my makeup collection. It paired beautifully with a cool-toned lip liner, so I can even see it becoming a part of my everyday lip combo!

Like Lauren, I’m all for hydrating lip products that give a glossy shine! I have tried a fair few lip oils though, so I went for Honey Gold as it was exactly like the name suggests – it appears clear on the lips, but with a goldish yellow hue.

The applicator caught my intention initially; it’s firm enough to allow you to apply the product to the lips evenly and means that the formula literally glides on. I also layered it on top of a lip liner (mine was a pinkish nude) and it elevated the look with ease. I’m excited to try different combinations, with a range of lip liner shades.

For me, I felt like I needed to top up my lips after two hours. But even when the initial gloss had faded, I noticed the hydration had stayed, which is impressive. All in all, I’m excited to recommend this to my friends! It’s by far my favourite packaging out of the lip products I own; it’s cute and girly, but importantly, easy to fit in any handbag and doesn’t leak.

My shade, Raspberry Swirl, was equally sheer but gave a much more classic baby pink colour. And given that I’d never tried a lip oil before (I’m a die hard lip balm fan), I wasn’t really sure what to expect beyond the colour.

Turns out I was impressed to see that the formula exceeded its claims of being nourishing and non-sticky – something I was initially sceptical about. It essentially gave the moisturising benefits of my favourite balms along with a much more noticeable (and long-lasting) colour pay-off.

I went for a couple of hours before topping it up (this didn’t include any eating or drinking), but that’s standard for me – I usually expect to rehydrate my lips throughout the day. I thought I’d give the packaging an honourable mention as well, as the shape was unique and generally made the lip oil easy to use for a beginner.

I’ve been using my Gisou lip oil every day since my first try, and it’s safe to say I am loving it!

I also tend to reach for lip balms (usually Glossier’s Balm Dotcom [link to product]) on a daily basis, rather than an oil. I reviewed Bee-llini Peach – a very natural looking shade with a slight light pink tint, so it was basically my natural lip colour with an added shine. For some, that might mean it’s not pigmented enough, but that’s what I’d personally want for a casual day-to-day wear.

In the past, I’ve found the texture of lip oils to be too thick for my liking. But Gisou’s gets points for being particularly lightweight – I almost forgot I was wearing it and it was super hydrating. I absolutely loved the bottle, not only because it’s curved, making it super easy to hold, but the glass material and overall design makes the product feel ten times more luxurious than what you would usually get out of a regular tube lip balm or gloss.

I’ve found myself reaching for the lip oil again and again since I first tried it, but I’m also looking forward to branching out and experimenting with the other shades too.
