Daisy London's Creative Director On How Motherhood Changed Her Beauty Routine

Daisy London's Creative Director On How Motherhood Changed Her Beauty Routine
Back in 2009 Ruth Bewsey was fresh out of uni and joined a jewellery brand inspired by wildflowers, roll forward 12 years and under her creative direction, Daisy London has become a firm-favourite for anyone looking for beautiful, every day pieces. These days Ruth juggles the brand and being a mum. Here she shares how pregnancy changed her skin and hair type, shook up her beauty routine and why she takes a less is more approach…

Post-Pregnancy Psoriasis

After I had my first child in 2017, I developed psoriasis from head to toe. Completely covered, it was quite a miserable time to be honest. This, coupled with a lack of sleep, weight gain and anxiety on how to keep a baby happy and health were all contributing factors to my new skin reaction. It was this that really triggered me to start looking at what I was using on my skin. Oh, and the extra wrinkles all those sleepless nights had given me!

My Carefully Considered Skincare

Looking after my skin is essential and I genuinely look forward to cleansing my face – it’s become a self-care ritual. Taking the time to look after my skin has meant that I understand which products and ingredients suit me and I feel more in tune with myself and my body. In the mornings, I always reach for Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash, £19.00 and follow with which honestly brings me so much joy - as does Tan-Luxe Super Glow Hyaluronic Self-Tan Serum, £15.00 for adding a natural-looking warmth to my skin. Other favourites include Sunday Riley CEO Glow Vitamin C + Turmeric Face Oil, £34.00 and Malin + Goetz Replenishing Face Serum, £66.00.

Why I Take A Less Is More Approach To Makeup

Over the past year, with lockdown, I’ve spent less time in the Daisy London office. This coupled with being a busy working mum means I take a less is more approach to makeup these days. Having a routine that’s quick and easy has made such a big difference. I used to wear foundation every day without fail but instead I now just use a little bit of concealer (the is my go-to) with a bit of and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer, £56.00. I usually finish with Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows, £25.00 to fill in my brows slightly.

Embracing My New Hair

Since having children, I’ve found my hair has completely changed. It always used to be relatively straight - perhaps with a slight wave if I really scrunched it up but nothing much. Nowadays, it has so many more waves which I love. I’ve found that brushing it when I’m in the shower and applying a curl cream on damp hair works wonders. Bumble & Bumble’s curl range has been a game-changer for me. After using the shampoo, conditioner and curl cream, I let my hair dry naturally which also saves on time. If I have an IG live or a face-to-face meeting, I’ll add a few extra waves with tongs to make it look a little less peachy and more considered.
