Byredo Oud Immortel Eau de Parfum is inspired by the woody scent of oud — a completely unique aroma, with nothing quite like it found elsewhere in nature. The scent of oud occurs when the wood of the Aquilaria tree saturates its core with a fragrant resin. The wood darkens and retains the new scent. Oud has been used to make traditional incense, leading to its prevalence in oriental cultures such as India.
A complex and precise mix of ingredients is needed to emulate oud wood as closely as possible. Limoncello, incense and cardamom create the most prevalent notes of the woody composition. Patchouli, papyrus and Brazilian rosewood hold the subtlety needed to transport the heart of the scent. A final addition of tobacco leaves and moss give the perfume its base notes for a musky finish.
