The Conscious Fragrances To Add To Your Scent Collection

As with other areas of beauty, there are various terms used, from organic to natural and sustainable, and we’ve done our best to explain the differences. There is some overlap between the terms, so we’ve chosen to use the umbrella term of ‘conscious fragrance’.
While this area of beauty and fragrance specifically still has a long way to go, while researching this piece we were impressed with how each and every brand included is consciously striving to have a more positive impact on the environment while still preserving the mood-boosting magic fragrance provides.
What is a natural perfume?
Perhaps the easiest definition, natural perfume is derived from flowers, plants and trees. Despite being extracted from nature, some natural notes don’t smell exactly as you’d imagine – for example, a lily note might not smell like a lily flower in full bloom, so they have to be carefully blended. Natural fragrance notes have a reputation for not lasting as long as synthetic counterparts (notes made in a lab). What is an organic perfume?
Much like skincare, a perfume has to fulfil the minimum percentage of organic ingredients to be deemed organic. These ingredients are usually plant-based and grown without the use of chemicals. What is a sustainable perfume?
It might surprise you to learn that a sustainable fragrance doesn’t necessarily have to be natural. There are some fragrance notes like sandalwood and musks that are more sustainable when brands opt for synthetic notes that can be recreated in the lab without putting stress on the environment. More and more fragrance brands are also offering refillable options and package their juice in recyclable bottles.Meet the best conscious perfumes at Space NK
