Our Head Of Content Road Tests Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6
Medik8 is a brand I know and trust, having used the Crystal Retinal Serums in the past (if you haven’t tried them, I highly recommend!). From the revolutionary encapsulated retinyl retinoate to the time release technology, over the years Medik8 has pushed the boundaries of vitamin A in skincare to ensure we can reap all the skin-boosting rewards with minimal redness or irritation.

Given the success of the brand’s vitamin A products, it’s not surprising that Medik8 has launched an eye equivalent. I used Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6 for two weeks and here’s my verdict so far…

Top Line On Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6

As with the bestselling Crystal Retinal range, retinaldehyde is at the centre of Medik8’s Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye Serum. Available in three strengths, this eye cream promises to help lift, smooth and brighten your eye area. Vitamin A beginners should start with Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 3, $43.68, while Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6, $57.20 is for anyone uses retinol on the regular and Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 10, $72.80 is the strongest dose and I’d recommend moving onto this only if you’ve completed a tube of Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6 at least once.

Everything You Need To Know About Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye Cream

Having used retinol comfortably for years, I decided to jump in with Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6. As with all vitamin A products, you have to ease your skin in, so I incorporated Medik8’s eye cream into my evening routine twice a week for a fortnight. Vitamin A is a potent ingredient, so building up your usage over time gives your skin time to adjust and minimises any irritation.

I don’t want to get too technical with all the ‘R’s’ – Sam By The Counter explains it perfectly in his guide on retinoids – but I do want to flag that Medik8 has used retinaldehyde, which is much closer to retinoic acid (the type of vitamin A our skin responds to). For simplicity I refer to vitamin A as 'retinol' throughout the review as it's the umbrella term that so many of us use. The brand has spent years on this formulation to ensure it provides all the benefits of retinaldehyde without irritating the delicate eye area.

Over the two weeks of using Medik8’s cream, I noted that my eye area felt smoother. The formula has the texture of a very light balm or serum. If you like your eye creams to feel super light, almost like a serum, you’ll enjoy Medik8’s Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye Cream. I used a pea-size amount across both eyes and gently tapped it onto my skin after cleansing before bed.

The Verdict On Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6

It’s clear that Medik8 has put a lot of work into this formula, and I have no doubt that it’s going to be as much of a success as the face serum. I only tried the product for two weeks and I think you need to use it for at least a month, if not longer to see real results.

The texture feels super lightweight and luxurious and, as I mentioned, I think anyone who likes lighter eye products will fall in love. I prefer a richer eye cream that offers a serious dose of hydration, which I didn’t get with this formula. I did note that my under eye area looked a little brighter, which is promising after just two weeks. If you’re looking to minimise deep lines and wrinkles and brighten dark circles, I think Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6, $57.20 would be a wise investment – just start slowly and don’t forget your SPF the next morning!
