Byoma's Gel Cream Gets Rave Reviews, So We Put It To The Test

We Review Byoma Moisturising Gel Cream | Space NK

Brilliantly combining accessibility, approachability and affordability, Byoma puts education and knowledge at the forefront of its formulas whilst also championing transparency and simplicity. Since its launch in 2020, the skincare and bodycare brand has steadily become a TikTok sensation and go-to brand for many.

Byoma skincare is all about boosting the skin barrier with its signature Tri-Ceramide Complex and other star ingredients. Presented in the most joy-inducing packaging, these products aim to deliver noticeable results for all skin types while being gentle and skin-compatible. Unsurprisingly, Byoma’s gone viral more than once – and we decided to go beyond the hype that surrounds one of the brand’s most popular products, Byoma Moisturising Gel Cream.

Powered by Tri-Ceramide Complex, which is made to rebuild the skin barrier and restore natural moisture levels; niacinamide, which controls oiliness; and green tea, which reduces redness and inflammation, this Byoma gel cream moisturiser works to delivers effective and targeted hydration. It’s lightweight and oil-free, and suitable for both AM and PM use.

So, we asked three of our colleagues with different skin types to road test this Byoma moisturiser and see if it’s really worth the hype. Here are their thoughts…

When it comes to moisturisers, I prefer rich textures – which may sound surprising given that I have oily skin. But the truth is that my oily complexion does get dehydrated and look dull at times, hence why I find richer moisturisers can sometimes work wonders for my skin – especially during the colder months. I’d rather deal with excess oiliness throughout the day than having a dehydrated complexion and my fine lines and wrinkles looking accentuated!

What drew me to testing this Byoma moisturiser was the fact that it’s not only enriched with green tea and Byoma’s signature Tri-Ceramide Complex, but also niacinamide. Given that it’s meant to be great for reducing the look of pores and treating overall skin texture, niacinamide is one of my favourite ingredients to use on my oily skin. On paper, this moisturiser seemed like a great fit for my skin’s needs, so I used it during my morning routine.

I can’t say the texture excited me – it was fairly lightweight and felt hydrating for sure, but not as rich as I would like it to be. I also felt like I had to pump out quite a lot of product to get just the right amount for my face to feel truly hydrated. Having said that, I don’t think I can say anything else that’s negative about this moisturiser. It layered well over my other skincare products and under my different sunscreens, as well as under makeup and different foundations. Whilst my skin didn’t feel super soothed and I wasn’t really glowing, my skin was neither excessively oily nor dehydrated by the end of the day. All in all, I think it did an excellent job at helping my complexion stay balanced.

I haven’t been using it long enough to see any long-term differences or results, but I’ll definitely add it to my rotation of moisturisers. I try to be as intuitive as possible with my skin and will switch up my face creams in line with whatever my complexion needs on a particular day. I don’t think it’s a moisturiser I would reach out for during winter, as I suspect I wouldn’t find it hydrating enough – but, if like me, you have oily skin and want something weightless for the summer months, you may very well love this Byoma gel moisturiser!

TANYA’S REVIEW

Even though my skin is, for the most part, quite balanced, I do feel like it can sometimes get quite dry throughout the day. So a face cream that delivers long-lasting moisturise is a must-have for me. I love the smell and texture of BYOMA Liptide pH Lip Oil, £ 10,00, so I was very curious to try this cream.

I’m used to heavy creams, so this Byoma moisturiser felt very lightweight in comparison to what I normally use. My skin felt lightly moisturised, and I wasn’t sure if it would be hydrating enough for me. However, I ‘checked in’ on my skin regularly and it did remain moisturised.

I tried it both in the morning and in the evening, and it worked well over my toner and serum. I’m yet to see any long-term effects but I’m definitely going to keep using it. I can’t wait to see how my skin will look in a few weeks, as I think there could potentially be a lasting brightening effect if I use it continuously.

I have a notoriously dry skin barrier, so I'm always keen to try a new moisturiser. With the changing of the season and a recent return from travelling, my skin was feeling really sensitive and looked quite dull. I usually go for quite a thick, heavy moisturiser - so Byoma's gel formula was definitely something new for me.

Upon first use, I was immediately impressed by the lightness of this product. It instantly felt soothing, refreshing and like my skin had just had a big class of ice-cold water. I'm breakout prone and sensitive, and did not experience any aggravation or blemishes while using this product. My skin felt very happy and I did notice a big improvement in the post-flight redness on my cheeks (a price worth paying for a holiday, but nonetheless annoying to deal with).

This moisturiser worked well with my foundation and other skincare products and fit really nicely into my routine. I can definitely see myself reaching out for this product again, especially throughout the summer, and would highly recommend it!

THE VERDICT ON Byoma Moisturising Gel Cream

All of our testers liked using this Byoma gel cream moisturiser and are keen to keep using it. They agree that, despite being a very lightweight cream, it delivered long-lasting hydration. “I can see why it’s a popular product – it’s got good ingredients and it’s great value for money,” says Vanessa.

The Pros: “I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to someone with oily and even acne-prone skin,” says Vanessa. She loves that niacinamide is a key ingredient in this moisturiser. “I think it’s one of those ingredients that can make a visible difference in the long run, so I’ll be sticking to this moisturiser in the hopes that it can help with my pores and texture.”

The Cons: Our testers noted that it’s a lightweight formula and initially weren’t sure it would be hydrating enough. Overall, they were pleased with the results – but if you have a drier skin type, this might not be the right moisturiser for you.
