Our Thoughts On VIEVE’s New Poutder Lip Mousse

VIEVE Poutder review | Space NK
We’ve all heard of lipsticks, gloss, balms and tints, but what is a lip mousse? In the past year or so, Jamie Genevieve has given us the ultimate skin tint, an insanely good mascara and eyeshadow palettes that you want to use right down to the pan. For spring 2025, Jamie has turned her attention to lips and created a lip mousse.

VIEVE Poutderis a featherlight mousse with a whipped texture that melts into lips. The soft matte finish is both forgiving and flattering thanks to the inclusion of nourishing vitamin E, hyaluronic acid and caster seed oil. Inspired by K-beauty lip products, VIEVE’s Poutder leaves your lips looking pillowy and plump, and feeling super comfortable and hydrated.

Available in four dreamy shades, the Space NK makeup buyers are predicting that Poutder will be a summer must-have. We asked two Space NK team members to road test the formula to see if it delivers long-lasting, comfortable colour. Here’s their honest VIEVE Poutder in Ripple review…

Vanessa’s VIEVE Poutder review

The product: VIEVE Poutder, £ 23,00 in Ripple
Before and after VIEVE Poutder | Space NK

Like any beauty enthusiast I’m intrigued and excited by all things K-beauty, so when I heard that VIEVE’s Poutder was inspired by Korean formulas, I knew I had to give it a go. Admittedly, this is quite different from what I normally go for in lipsticks – I love traditional bullet lipsticks and liquid lipsticks for pigment and a statement lip. But I’m open to a more natural look too.

I tried “Ripple”, which is a very pretty, not too warm but not too cool pink and different from what’s in my lip collection. I really liked the texture from the get-go – I wouldn’t say it doesn’t feel like you’re not wearing anything on the lips, but it’s a very lightweight texture.

As someone with perennially dry lips, I’m happy to say it didn’t dry them out – in fact, I’d say there was slight a blurring effect, I think my lips looked smoother. For the most part, it worked well with my lip balms – although it was easier to apply on bare lips. I did feel like I had to skip my lip plumper if I was wearing this, which was ‘difficult’ for me as I love an extra plump!

I generally prefer a defined lip look, so I did build up the colour and team it with lip liner a lot of the time. I found the formula very buildable; it didn’t smudge or pile when doing so. It didn’t last long, but generally I don’t expect mousse formulas to have the same longevity as standard liquid lipsticks. Plus, as an avid snacker, I’m always ready to reapply!

Shawnee’s VIEVE Poutder review

The product: VIEVE Poutder, £ 23,00 in Ripple
Before and after VIEVE Poutder | Space NK

I have been trying the VIEVE Poutder in shade "Ripple" for the last week or so and I've really enjoyed using it. Throwing it back to 2016, I was a liquid matte lip girl and let me tell you, this is not a liquid matte lip. Gone are the days of crusty, crumbling lips – we have now entered a powdery, blurry era.

The texture of Poutder is close to a mousse. It's comfortable to wear and I forgot it was on after a while of wearing. I really enjoyed this shade, and felt it filled a gap in my lipstick wardrobe both in terms of tone and the finish of the product. Application was easy and because the component is small and slim, it slotted into my bag nicely for on-the-go touch ups.

One thing I found with this product is that it did transfer fairly easily. I’m someone who bites my lip when I think, and I did notice that after a while I was left only with a soft tint rather than the original pay off. The formula came off while eating and drinking too.

I’m quite vigorous with my use of lip balm and ahead of using this product I would recommend hydrating your lips. If your lips are on the drier side, VIEVE Poutder might accentuate your texture. Using something like the VIEVE Lip Dew, £ 21,00 could be a great combination as it’ll give you a boost of hydration, while Poutder will give lips a blurring pop of colour.

The Verdict On VIEVE Poutder

Both Vanessa and Shawnee were very impressed with the mousse-like texture of Poutder, however their opinion of how nourishing the formula was differed.

THE PROS: Poutder is easy to apply and the texture is very lightweight. Depending on your lip texture, it can be worn alone or layered on top of your favourite balm or VIEVE Lip Dew. Both reviewers loved the shade “Ripple” too!

THE CONS:The formula needed to be reapplied after eating and drinking, so if you’re someone who likes a long-lasting lip product, Poutder might not be for you.

Will Vanessa or Shawnee keep using VIEVE’s Poutder? “I’ll use it on days when I want something natural and effortless (I’m also keen to try it with VIEVE’s Lip Liner in the shade Rouge Rouge),” says Vanessa. “I do love the softening and blurring effect, and I think it’s a lovely shade for summer. Personally, I would also love to see VIEVE bring out more statement shades in this formula!”

Shawnee is not quite as confident: “Poutder hasn't replaced my everyday tinted lip balm, but I could see myself revisiting this product in the future.”

More from VIEVE

Poutder isn’t the only matte finish lip product VIEVE has, the VIEVE Modern Matte Lipstick, £ 23,00 is a very comfortable lipstick. It’s available in a range of flattering, neutral shades that cater for all skin tones. If you’re not a fan of matte lip formulas, we recommend checking out the VIEVE Satin Slip Lipstick, £ 23,00. It’s a satin lipstick that feels like a lip balm and despite only five shades, there’s something for everyone.

VIEVE Lip Dew, £ 21,00 is Jamie Genevieve’s most renowned lip product for good reason. The high-shine formula ticks every box for a lip gloss. Plus, it comes in seven gorgeous shades – we recommend Mirror for versatility.
