Tatcha SPF Review: Everything You Need To Know

Tatcha The Silk Sunscreen SPF 50 review | Space NK
SPF is a daily skincare essential for everyone, regardless of age, skin type or tone. Finding the best sunscreen for you is no mean feat though, especially when there are so many options available. Fans of Tatcha will no doubt be very excited to try The Silk Sunscreen SPF 50.

The physical SPF uses zinc oxide to shield your skin from harmful UV rays and is ideal for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin. It’s also infused with hyaluronic acid, silk extract and amino acids to help hydrate, while niacinamide helps to bolster your skin barrier.

While the formula promises to help ease redness and uneven tone, there has been some chatter online about the finish on different skin tones. We decided to ask the Space NK team to try it out and share their honest Tatcha The Silk Sunscreen SPF 50 review.

I very much practise what I preach and wear a lightweight, broad-spectrum SPF every day. I look look for sunscreens with a hint of colour and use a tinted moisturiser that contains SPF, so I get the best of both worlds. I put Tatcha’s Silk Sunscreen SPF 50 to the test over the weekend and loved the texture. It is truly beautiful, it’s lightweight, creamy and goes on so smoothly. I also enjoyed the light, refreshing scent.

Tatcha’s SPF is super easy to apply and gave my skin a healthy glow, however the finish did have a white sheen to it. You can see this in the before and after images below. While it is slightly disappointing, it’s also not uncommon for a mineral sunscreen to leave a subtle white cast. My top tip for anyone with darker skin who wants to use this SPF is to mix it in with a couple of drops of tinted moisturiser.

Aside from the finish, there’s no denying that this is a lovely sunscreen, and it feels beautiful on your skin. I’d also point out that I didn’t notice any breakouts or dryness immediately or in the days that followed.

I wear SPF every single day regardless of the weather and tend to prefer a lighter sunscreen that doesn’t ball or block my pores. Another key factor for me is that the formula sits will under makeup. When I first tried the Tatcha SPF I was surprised at the colour – it’s a very light pink-beige shade that makes it almost look like a skin tint. As for the texture, I loved it as it’s super lightweight (almost like a liquid - it can spread out!) and feels lovely on your skin. [/copy]

I found it very easy to apply as it’s so light; it melted onto my skin really nicely. I put some on the back of my hand and applied it with my fingertips; you could probably apply it straight onto your skin with the applicator and then blend it all out. The finish was good - very subtle, neither matte nor shiny. As you can see in my before and after pictures, there's barely any difference – which I was pleased about!

I've used it quite consistently for well over two weeks as part of my morning routine. I wouldn't say I've noticed any skincare benefits, but it hasn't broken out my oily complexion. I'm going to keep using it because I love the texture of it and how well it sits with my Tatcha moisturiser. I also love that it has niacinamide, which is one of my favourite skincare ingredients.

Our verdict: Does Tatcha’s Silk Sunscreen SPF 50 work for all skin types and tones?

It goes without saying that if you are a fan of the bestselling Tatcha The Water Cream, $23.00 or The Dewy Skin Cream, you are highly likely to love this SPF. If you’ve struggled to find an SPF that feels super light and soft, it’s well worth seeking out Tatcha The Silk Sunscreen SPF 50, $62.00.

If you have darker skin, we recommend popping into store to patch test this unless you’re happy to mix the formula in with your tinted moisturiser or base as Dotty did have a white sheen after using Tatcha’s SPF.
