The Wind Down

I think if you asked most people, they use their Sunday evening as a chance to treat their skin to some much needed TLC after a busy week. Me? I prefer to use Sunday morning as my me-time. I usually go out on a Friday evening, so tend to stay in on a Saturday night and watch TV whilst eating some form of indulgent Deliveroo and with that, an early bedtime. So, come Sunday morning, I am feeling refreshed and revitalised and always invest in my skin and myself.

The Routine

I love waking up on a Sunday and having a relaxing bath, usually listening to Magic or Classic FM with candles aplenty. My bath oil of choice is Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil, which always leaves my house smelling like a spa and my skin silky smooth. As a beauty editor, my candle collection is pretty vast but a favourite that I always light for special occasions is Diptyque Tubereuse. I always cleanse in the bath as I like my skin to feel squeaky-clean like my body. My favourite cleanser at the moment is Sarah Chapman Skinesis Ultimate Cleanse which is oil-based and leaves your skin feeling super fresh and like you’ve just had one of her incredible facials. Then I treat my skin to a resurfacing mask like Tata Harper’s to help slough away any dead skin cells and give it a revitalising boost that, after a week commuting in the city, my skin always needs. Colbert MD Illumino Anti-Aging Brightening Mask are the sheet masks that when I use, people ask me if I’ve had a facial.

Post-mask, I then give my eyes some TLC and I swear by Sisley’s Sisleya Eye And Lip Duo that comes with a gold sculpting tool that really helps work the product in and around my eye area and also helps me zone out. For trusty moisturisers I rely on brands like Sisley – I love their Velvet Nourishing Cream formula and I’m a huge fan of La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream; it’s my go-to on days when I’m in a rush and want to be assured that my skin is going get a good boost of hydration in one application. Sisley’s Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream – I love to work this into my routine in the winter or when my skin is feeling depleted. Its creamy, rich texture is a treat for dehydrated skin.

Bedtime

I’m not going to lie, despite being a beauty editor I like to get into bed as quickly as possible so limit my regime as much as possible before bed (although you should NEVER go to bed with your make-up on). I tend to stick to a three-step regime at night  (cleanse, moisturise, retinol) as I do my big skincare-self-care regime on a Sunday morning. I sometimes switch up my cleanser and at night love Ren Rosa Centifolia Cleansing Gel as it perfectly washes the day away. As I’m nearing 30, I’ve started to become more regimented with my retinol regime. I apply it at night, twice a week and really love the Drunk Elephant retinol. A pea-sized amount works wonders on sluggish, lacklustre skin and as a little goes a long way, the tube lasts forever. My all-time favourite lip balm is La Mer’s The Lip Balm. One pot lasts me about a year and I never leave the house without it.

Monday Morning

Every morning I cleanse with my trusty Sarah Chapman cleanser and then I swear by a combination of Kate Somerville DermalQuench Wrinkle Warrior and Revive SPF 50++. This is the best SPF, I cannot recommend it enough. It sounds weird, but I actually can’t wait to apply it in the morning as it leaves my skin feeling quenched, protected and smelling like holiday. It sells out a lot so if you find it, I’d recommend buying two. Dr David Jack has long been a go-to doctor of mine and his All Day Long moisturiser is an everyday must for me. It has a flattering tint to it which means on good days when I’m feeling confident, it doubles up as a moisturiser and a sheer foundation. I’m not a huge fake tan person but when the sun comes out I like to warm up my lower legs, arms and décolletage with. By Terry Soleil Terrybly Hydra-Bronzing Tinted Serum. This does just that and is wash-off which means you don’t have to worry about it going streaky.
