When it comes to achieving an enviable sun-kissed glow and adding warmth, bronzer is essential. We’ve answered some of the most common questions to help you find your ultimate bronzer and we’ve asked the experts for their top tips for application too.

Is Cream Bronzer Better Than Powder?

Cream and powder bronzers are equally as good, it depends on your skin type and preferred texture. “If you’ve got dry skin, liquids and creams work well as they melt into the skin and don’t exaggerate any dry patches. You can also look for ones with more of a shimmer to them,” says says our Colour Trainer, Renee Efthymiou. Try Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Drops, € 39,00 for a sun-kissed glow with a dewy finish. If you’d prefer something closer to a powder, look to RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer, € 30,00 and apply it with your fingers for a seamless finish.

“Those with oily or shine-prone skin should opt for powder formulas with more of a matte finish,” says Renee. is a firm favourite with us and a bestseller.

Which Shade Of Bronzer Will Suit My Skin Tone?

“Always pick a shade that works well with your natural skin tone,” says NARS’ Lead Artist, Rachel Hardie. “For light skin tones, try one which has a touch of pink to harmonise with your natural tan colour. If you have medium toned skin, try something more golden, and deeper tones should look for a bronzer with a reddish hue,” she adds. NARS, Charlotte Tilbury and Hourglass all offer a great range of shades. Renee advises choosing a bronzer that is just one or two shades darker than your skin tone to achieve a natural-looking, just-back-from-holiday glow.

What’s The Best Way To Apply Bronzer?

If you’re using a bronzing powder, a brush is best. “The key to a naturally-bronzed look is to blend it out in small gentle circles to diffuse any harsh lines,” says Renee. “Allow your brush to hug the cheek bone and gently sweep it across in circular motions. Repeat this around the outer temples and along the hair and jaw line.” Don’t forget to blend the colour down your neck too.

“For cream and liquid bronzers, press them into the same areas but avoid sweeping movements as fluid textures may disturb makeup underneath and leave a streaky finish.” Lastly, always remember to build your bronzer gradually and avoid applying too much to start with as it will be harder to blend and control.
