This Erborian Formula Is Essential For Makeup Minimalists

Erborian Skin Hero Glow review | Space NK
With a lot of us working from home regularly, the demand for low maintenance makeup has skyrocketed. Minimal makeup is no longer a trend channelled by people with genetically gifted flawless skin, we’re all tapping into it. The Korean meets Parisan beauty brand, Erborian has been particularly good at creating lightweight, pore-blurring formulas that help to improve your skin’s appearance without looking or feeling like you’re wearing makeup.

The brand’s bestselling CC Crème has been the go-to for plenty of beauty insiders looking to achieve that no makeup makeup look in seconds. Packed full of tiger grass and vitamin E, it helps to soothe skin too. The newer Super BB Concealer has also proved popular.

Erborian is hoping its latest offering, the Skin Hero Glow will be equally as well received by makeup minimalists. The non-tinted formula promises to smooth and brighten your skin effortless. Infused with white ginseng, hyaluronic acid and light-reflecting pearl pigment, this skin perfector helps to soothe, smooth, hydrate and brighten your skin.

Does it live up to its promises? We asked two Space NK staffers to road test Erborian’s Skin Hero Glow and report back.

Hanitra’s Erborian Skin Hero Glow review

Hanitra's Erborian Skin Hero Glow review | Space NK

I prefer to keep my makeup minimal most of the time as I like to be out of the door quickly in the morning and because my skin breaks out quite easily. Depending on how my skin is looking and feeling, I usually opt for concealer and if I need more coverage, I’ll use a skin tint (Hourglass and ILIA are my favourites!).

A while back I tried Erborian’s original Skin Hero Bare Skin Perfector and wasn’t really a fan of the texture, so if I’m honest, I didn’t have high hopes for the glow version. However, it was much lighter and nicer on my skin. It did take a while to blend in and I would say the glow is quite subtle. The softer finish worked well for my skin type though as I always get shinier throughout the day.

It doesn’t really show on the photos above, but I could really see the blurring effect from this hybrid primer. I can definitely see a lot of people wearing it on its own without any makeup. I would be curious to try it out with a heavier makeup look to see if it boosts your base at all.

Having applied concealer and blusher on top, which separated a little, I would recommend waiting until Erborian’s Skin Hero Glow is fully dry before using any other products.

Victoria’s Erborian Skin Hero Glow review

Victoria's Erborian Skin Hero Glow review | Space NK

I am a huge fan of Erborian’s Super BB Concealer and, like Hanitra, I don’t like wearing much makeup – I hate the mask-like feeling of foundation leaves on my skin. With this in mind, I was ready to fall head over heels with the Skin Hero Glow. Sadly it wasn’t meant to be.

I think we got off on the wrong foot because I found the name a little bit confusing, and I wasn’t sure what to expect from ‘Skin Hero Glow’. Just before I tried this formula, I’d reviewed a glow-giving moisturiser which I loved and therefore I had high expectations. Unfortunately, the blurring and illuminating effects were too subtle in my opinion. Admittedly there was more of a lift in radiance than you can see in the before and after Skin Hero Glow photos, but it wasn’t enough for me to make this formula a permanent fixture in my routine.

While I didn’t notice a glow in real life or from my selfies, when I joined a Team’s call a few hours after applying Erborian’s Skin Hero Glow, I was complimented on my glowy skin. So, while I won’t use it again, I wouldn’t blacklist this product. If you’re someone with naturally quite even toned skin who just wants a subtle lift, this could be your dream product.

Our Verdict On Erborian Skin Hero Glow

Erborian Skin Hero Glow, € 24,00 received mixed reviews from the team. While Hanitra loved the subtly of blurring and radiance, Victoria was left wanting more. It’s worth noting that this formula is non-tinted, so it won’t help even out skin tone but the blurring effect will help ease the appearance of pores.

The pros: It couldn’t be easier to use, both Hanitra and Victoria used their fingers to apply and found it straightforward to blend in. The formula helps to blur and boost radiance all over without leaving you with a silver sheen. It’s a very natural-looking finish.

The cons: The results are very subtle – perhaps too subtle for some people. It also takes a few moments for the formula to dry, which is worth waiting for.

Neither of our reviewers used the formula for longer than a week, so we haven’t been able to comment on the long-term skin benefits. We’d love to know your thoughts on Erborian’s Skin Hero Glow. Share your review here and you’ll receive NDULGE points as a little thank you!
