Why Beauty Editors Love Augustinus Bader's The Rich Cream...

Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream review | Space NK
Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream has a very loyal following amongst beauty editors and Space NK customers. While the £140 price tag for 30ml might raise eyebrows in some quarters, there are plenty of people who will vouch for Augustinus Bader’s moisturiser.

Having in 2018, Augustinus Bader is still a relatively young luxury beauty brand. However, Professor Bader, who founded the company, has been researching stem cell science and regenerative medicine for over 30 years and The Rich Cream and its lighter sister moisturiser are the product of his labour. Fast forward five years and Augustinus Bader now has over 20 skincare, bodycare and haircare products.

The Rich Cream remains a firm favourite, so we decided to delve into this much-loved moisturiser and asked two Space NK team members to try it out and share their honest Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream review.

What’s the hype around Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream?

When The Rich Cream launched in 2018 it was hailed as the only skincare product you needed – alongside a cleanser and SPF of course. This is due to the multitasking wonder ingredient, the TFC8 complex, or the Trigger Factor Complex which is at the heart of all Augustinus Bader products, including The Rich Cream. Made up of amino acids and vitamins, the TFC8 complex mimics your skin’s natural repair process, helping to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and plump up slackness.

The idea of being able to streamline three or more serums and moisturiser into one cream sounds too good to be true, but at the time of launch and subsequently beauty editors have championed Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream. Here’s what the Space NK team thought…

Kirsten’s Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream review

Skin type: Dry and prone to hormonal acne

Skin tone: neutral

The product: Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream, € 170,00

Before and after Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream | Space NK
Kirsten before using Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream and after

My skin was looking quite dull and dry, and I had some sore, red spots from my hormonal acne, so I was excited to see if Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream would help soothe as well as hydrate my skin. The texture was a little thicker than what I’m used to with my moisturisers, but it melted into my skin really easily. After the first use my skin felt instantly smoother and more hydrated, so we were off to a flying start.

I used the Rich Cream on its own after cleansing in the morning and evening. After a few days of using Augustinus Bader’s moisturiser, I not only noticed my skin felt more hydrated and brighter, but my hormonal acne started to ease. One important point to note is that the formula acted as a good base for my makeup. I was a little worried about how my foundation would sit on top of a thicker cream, but because the formula melted into my skin, my makeup went on easily.

Having used it for three weeks now I can say with full confidence that I will keep using Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream. I’ve been struggling with my hormonal acne for a few months, and this has made a real difference in just a few weeks.

Eleanor’s Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream review

Skin type: Normal/combination

Skin tone: Pale

The product: Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream, € 170,00

At this time of year, I tend to reach for richer textures and formulas to combat the cold weather and patches of dry skin, so this review came at the perfect time. My usual moisturisers weren’t quite cutting it, so I was mixing these with a face oil.

I loved the texture of this Augustinus Bader moisturiser. It definitely lives up to its ‘rich’ name; the texture is thick so at times it did feel quite hard to apply. Also due to the thickness it felt like I needed to use quite a lot to ensure my face was fully covered, but once it was on it felt great. Most importantly, my skin looked really glowy and felt soft and smooth.

After using it for a whole, I noticed a difference in my skin’s hydration levels. Any patches of dryness that I had been experiencing were gone and my skin felt less tight. Plus, I noticed my makeup was sitting and enduring much better than over other moisturisers I’d been using, especially after long days at the office. Usually I find my skin can get quite dry and my makeup doesn’t last as long, but that wasn’t the case with The Rich Cream.

I didn’t quite keep to the one product rule, and I used the Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream in the morning after using a liquid exfoliant and before SPF and makeup. In the evening I applied it after hyaluronic acid and before my eye cream. I will 100% keep using this moisturiser and will be recommending it to any friends or family members who complain of dry skin patches.

The Verdict: Is Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream worth it?

Is Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream, € 170,00 worth investing in? That is the question most people ask as £140 is a lot of money for a lot of us to spend on a 30ml moisturiser. Both our testers were incredibly impressed with Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream, so we’re inclined to say it absolutely is worth every single penny. “I would recommend it to anyone who likes a slightly richer moisturiser, as well as those struggling with dry patches and hormonal acne,” says Kirsten.

“This is a great moisturiser for anyone who has dry skin all year round, but if you have combination skin, you might find this is too rich in the summer months,” says Eleanor. “It’s definitely my go-to moisturiser in the winter moving forwards though.”
