The highly stable retinol present in this formula works to reduce the appearance of fine lines, photo damage and general signs of skin ageing. It also encourages natural cell turnover, helping to promote softer and healthier-looking skin while working to minimise the appearance of blemishes and dark spots.
As retinol can cause irritation to the skin, newer technologies now exist to mimic the visible effects of retinol without causing as much discomfort for the skin. With this in mind, The Ordinary recommends beginning with serums with lower concentrations of retinol in order to build up tolerance.

Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water-based serums but before heavier treatments.
Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure.
Caution: Retinol can cause irritation, redness and peeling, especially around the eyes and mouth, in the early stages of treatment while skin builds tolerance. If persistent irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician.
Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Keep out of reach of children. Refrigerate after opening.

Not for me
Can't say how effective it is, but I really did not like the way this felt on my skin, super oily. It also smelled really oily, and the next morning my face and pillow smelled like oil that had been sitting around for months (rancid). Only used it twice and got the granactive retinoid emulsion instead which I find much better as far as the feel and the smell are concerned.

Budget friendly retinol
Absolutely love this! Bought it on a whim when checking out and seeing it at a reduced price. Had a look at the reviews and I am not disappointed! If you haven’t already purchased, I would highly advise you do! I have since gone on to purchase more of the products from this brand!

A great retinol for sensitive skin.
I bought this product earlier this month to get back into retinol products after a past allergic skin reaction to a stronger retinol. I patch tested this product for 24 hours and there was no reaction. Definitely patch test before using if you have sensitive skin. My skin is completely non-reactive to this product and I'm very happy for that. I also think it's working a bit even if it's not a very strong product. It goes on easily like water and it's not heavy or turns my face yellow which I appreciate it. I'm not sure when I will upgrade to a stronger product because I'm happy to be able to use something consistently that doesn't react with my skin.

Glowy skin
This is a fantastic starter retinol! When I apply it at night, my skin looks radiant by morning. The squalane in the formula ensures it's really gentle and makes my skin feel incredibly soft. Great for staring with retinol
This was the first retinol product i used and started with a few nights a week before using nightly so my skin could get used to it without breaking out. The texture can be a bit oily feeling but you get used to it and is not much of a problem as it's only used at night so doesn't affect your makeup.
