Margaret Mitchell On Her Ultimate Skincare Routine

Margaret Mitchell On Her Ultimate Skincare Routine
Ask any expert and they’ll tell you that a solid skincare routine is fundamental to having great skin. I have been following the same routine twice a day since I was a teenager for two reasons. Firstly, I’ve had very bad acne since the age of 13. Secondly, my mother passed on some words of wisdom that her mother had shared with her, and they’ve stuck with me: “To keep your skin fresh for life, wash and moisturise morning and night; drink water; don’t smoke”. I’d add, “Wear SPF”, but otherwise, words to live by! I used to use oil-free and purifying formulas, with a strong focus on what I was taking off my skin (read: lots of exfoliating). However, as I’ve gotten older (and especially one year on from having a baby…), my skin has definitely evolved.

These days, I need heavy-duty ingredients to plump, nourish and balance. While the steps and products have changed, the consistency has remained. Here is my evening skincare routine laid bare…

Soy Face Cleanser, € 16,00

Every evening, I double cleanse with Fresh Soy Cleanser and Mario Badescu Gentle Foaming Cleanser, € 16,50 to wash away makeup, SPF and any dirt and grime that’s built up.

Sunday Riley

A+ High-Dose Retinoid Serum, € 83,00

Next up, I’ll use one of my trio of treatments (I alternate between the three), including this high-performing retinol serum from Sunday Riley. With a 5% retinol ester blend and 1% liposomal-encapsulated retinol blend, it’s packs a punch – there’s a reason it’s one of our bestselling retinol products.

Kate Somerville

Peptide K8 Power Cream, € 149,00

If my skin’s feeling a bit slack and dry, Kate Somerville Peptide K8 Power Cream is the recharge it needs. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated and plump.

C-Tetra Lipid C Radiance Serum, € 54,00

For a dose of potent vitamin C, I use Medik8 C-Tetra Lipid C Radiance Serum. You can use this as part of your morning or evening routine to brighten and refine skin. Don’t forget your SPF though!

Ren Clean Skincare

Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask, € 37,00

Depending on how my skin is feeling, I’ll take down any redness with the help of this soothing face mask. It’s my go-to if I’m having a hectic week and need to dial down the stress levels.

Intral Redness Relief Soothing Serum, € 35,00

If I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to mask, I’ll use Darphin Intral Redness Relief Soothing Serum to help calm and soothe.

Dr. Dennis Gross

DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro, € 499,00

My last word is on a clever gadget I invested in last year. It was my splurge gift to myself at Christmas and I use the Dr Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite Faceware Pro twice a week religiously – I am definitely seeing results in my skin’s texture and glow.
