Our Honest Review Of Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty Lip Oil
With her finger on the pulse, of course Selena Gomez is tapping into the glossy lip trend. The singer, actress and superwoman’s latest offering, via her bestselling brand Rare Beauty, promises to hydrate and gloss lips. Given the runaway success of the Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation and Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, I decided to reembrace the gloss and take on the mighty task of testing Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil.
I tried Selena Gomez’s lip oil every day for a week, here’s everything you need to know.
THE TOP LINE ON RARE BEAUTY SOFT PINCH TINTED LIP OIL
• Gel-like texture that turns into a lightweight lip oil
• High gloss finish that can be layered for a bolder look
• Super hydrating formula with jojoba and sunflower seed oils
• Eight wearable shades in a variety of pinks, roses and browns
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RARE BEAUTY SOFT PINCH TINTED LIP OIL
Now, I must be honest – I’ve been slightly hesitant about lip oils. I adore lipstick in all its shape and forms – but lip oils? Having grown up in the nineties and noughties and ‘experienced’ the early days of lip gloss (if you know, you know), I haven’t been in any rush to revisit a glossy lip look. But, if there is anyone who can help me get over this aversion, it’s Selena – especially after spotting videos of her on social sporting some gorgeously glossy lips.
I’m happy to say that I did not feel like I was going back to my teen days when putting on the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil – I liked how fresh, youthful and plump it made my lips look. In fact, it almost got me questioning if avoiding gloss and shine for so many years had been a mistake. Also, it not only looked fresh, but felt super refreshing on the lips from the get-go.
As my lips are always drying out, I did wear it mostly with lip balm which didn’t seem to interfere with the formula. I also wore it on top of one of my Rare Beauty Kind Words Lipstick, € 23,00 (the shade Serenity worked wonders with Bold) and Rare Beauty Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream, € 16,10.
And stickiness? Well, that is luckily a thing of my lip gloss past as this gel formula didn’t get into any fights with my hair and stayed put for a good part of the day. As someone who loves a good colour payoff when it comes to lip products, I was pleased to see that this lip oil really does deliver pigment (especially if you do two coats).
While I definitely wouldn’t say the Rare Beauty lip oil has the same durability as a lipstick, I only found myself topping it up after snacks and meals rather than every time I drank anything. The gloss finish fades over time, but it leaves a nice tint that I was happy to roll with.
THE VERDICT ON RARE BEAUTY SOFT PINCH TINTED LIP OIL
If you’re already a seasoned fan of lip oils, you will love Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil, € 22,00. It sits comfortably on lips, looks pretty on its own, layers well over other lip products and leaves a nice tint after a few hours of wear. If you’re someone who naturally gravitates towards a lip gloss, but are keen to try something a little more hydrating, I think this is a really good option as it gives you a high shine finish while treating your lips too.
After a week of trialling Selena Gomez’s lip oil, I’ll most likely be using it as a lip topper moving forwards. I love definition and colour on my lips, pairing it with a lip liner or over lipstick was my favourite look. As we move into summer, I think the glossy lip trend is really going to come into its own and this lip oil is going to be become a firm favourite.
Most importantly, I can confirm the aversion to glossy lips has successfully been lifted.
