Helps treat: Signs of ageing and uneven skin texture

Feels like: An oil-like serum

Recommended for: This high strength retinol will help reduce signs of ageing and improve skin’s radiance

Fight visible signs of ageing with The Ordinary Retinol 1% in Squalane, a water- and silicone-free skincare treatment enriched with vitamin A to help revitalise the complexion.

The highly stable retinol present in this formula works to reduce the appearance of fine lines, photo damage and general signs of skin ageing. It also encourages natural cell turnover, helping to promote softer and healthier-looking skin while working to minimise the appearance of blemishes and dark spots.

As retinol can cause irritation to the skin, newer technologies now exist to mimic the visible effects of retinol without causing as much discomfort for the skin. With this in mind, The Ordinary recommends beginning with lower concentrations in order to build up tolerance.

Key Benefits

  • Works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and general skin ageing
  • Promotes healthier-looking skin while minimising the look of blemishes
  • Water and silicone-free solution with 1% retinol
  • Vitamin A-rich retinol helps minimise signs of hyperpigmentation
  • Vegan and cruelty-free

Caused a bad rash

I bust be really sensitive to retinol. Ended up at the doctors and getting steroids and strong antihistamines after using this. Itchy red rash lasted about a week after using this. Then about a month later a stupidly tried it again to see if it really was this retinol causing the reaction (used a lot less on a small em test area) and it became rashy and sore again. So I think it must be something that really disagrees with me. Sorry I don’t have something better to say. I had such high hopes for this too after hearing so many good things about it.

Not too sure

I just started using retinol and this is the first one I used, I'm not too sure if it's the best but I just wanted to start using retinol and experiment with it. This is very heavy and very thick so I'm not too sure if it's absorbing into my skin but it definitely feels like it's just sitting on top if that makes sense. I haven't seen any changes to my skin so far but it has only been a few weeks since I started using it.

Best Use: Hydrating

Works well

I like this a lot. I built up from lower strengths to this one over the course of a few months so didn't notice any sensitivity or redness. Its oily so I would only use it in the evening, but it feels nice and absorbs relatively well. You get a lot of use out of the small bottle and the price is great. I have this as part of my regular skin care routine

Best Use: Breakouts & Acne, Minimise Fine Lines & Wrinkles, Anti-Aging

A bit harsh on young sjin

I found this a bit harsh so I had to jump down to a lower percentage. As an oil it lively and absorbs well without being greasy and a little goes a long way so the bottle will last ages but if you have sensitive skin or are new to purer types of retinol I would start lower

Best Use: Firming, Anti-Aging

Retinol

Quite a high strength, it is not overly irritating though. I would obviously suggest building up your retinol using to this so you don’t suffer irritation and peeling but it’s quite a nice formula but it does feel quite oily; I don’t mind this however as this is a product I would only apply in the evenings.
