Diptyque's story began in the heart of 1960s Paris. Three multi-disciplinary artists – theatre set designer Yves Coueslant, interior designer Christiane Gautrot, and painter Desmond Knox-Lee - opened a boutique at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain, initially selling unusual fabrics and trinkets. In 1963, the trio forayed into fragrance, and Diptyque launched its first scented candle, followed by personal perfumes in 1968.
