On Keeping The Beauty Stash Organised…

I like to keep my beauty products organised. My hair stuff is in a two-drawer wire basket thing beneath the sink; my morning skincare and face wash is in the medicine cabinet; my night-time skincare is in my nightstand. My desk doubles as a vanity, so my makeup is in the desk drawer. My perfume collection is displayed on trays on a bookshelf near my desk, and there are also about four plastic tubs with extras and new things I want to try.

On Testing Endless Beauty Products…

If I’m trying out skincare, like a moisturiser or anti-ager, I will try to use it 30 days before I judge whether or not it’s a keeper. You can’t just use a treatment product once and expect to see results. Cleansers and masks are different, I think you can tell right away. For makeup, sometimes I’ll play around on a Sunday and do a full face just to try new things. I’m loyal to my serum, foundation and mascara, but I’m always trying new cleansers, moisturisers, and perfumes.

On Minimal Vs. Maximal Beauty…

I’m high-maintenance on the back end so I can be low-maintenance day-to-day. Meaning, I’ll do the big treatments that take time and money: injectables (neuromodulators and fillers), lash lifts, hair color, gel manicures, so I can basically just roll out of bed looking good most mornings. I don’t really wear much makeup, and I have no problem going out without any makeup at all. But, that’s because I do all that other stuff so I’m working from a point of advantage, if you know what I mean.

On Night-Time Cleansing And Retinol Alternatives…

If I’ve been wearing makeup, I like to double cleanse with an oil-based balm followed by something foamy. Right now, I’m into Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser. After cleansing I move on to the anti-ageing big guns. My skin gets too red and dry from a retinoid, so my do-it-all ingredient of choice is epidermal growth factors (EGFs) and I’ll use a serum containing these. I usually finish by massaging on a facial oil before bed. Vintner’s Daughter is my favourite, but I also love Dr. Jackson’s among others… and I’m always trying new ones.

On At-Home Maintenance…

Sunday is when I get the more time-consuming beauty things done – and it’s all about results. I give myself a pedicure, and I’ll do my nails if I don’t have gels. If my brows are getting out of control, I’ll tweeze the strays. And I have to get the skin on my chin in order. I’m prone to these things called sebaceous filaments, which look like tiny white hairs on your chin, but they’re really sebum plugs that need to be exfoliated away somehow. Lately, I’ve been using an ultrasonic tool to take care of them, but an exfoliating scrub or a clay-based mask works too.

On Making Your Manicure Last Longer…

I keep cuticle oil in my bedside drawer – I always forget to apply it, but it makes such a big difference in how long my manicures last and how good my nails look. When I moved the cuticle oil to my nightstand table, I found I would remember to apply it more often.

On Low Maintenance Mornings…

In the morning, I just splash my face with water, apply an antioxidant-rich serum and some moisturiser. Lately I’ve been using Aesop’s Camelia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream most days, and then sunscreen. I’m equally as low key with my makeup. If I haven’t had a lash lift and tint, then I’ll curl my lashes and put on mascara. I might throw on some tinted moisturiser or concealer. The new Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer is the bomb.

On Zhuzing Up Wavy Hair…

My hair is long, wavy, dry, fine-to-medium in diameter, and there’s tons of it, so it looks really thick. I just wash, condition, apply a styling product, and go to sleep with it wet. I wake up and it’s pretty much good to go. Sometimes I need to touch up the top with a curling iron, but usually it’s just the right amount of wavy and messy. I wash it around three times a week and on my second- and third-day hair, I use Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to zhuz up my waves and refresh the scent. Bumble and Bumble Brilliantine is great if my ends are looking frazzled.

On Body Brushing…

My body routine is pretty laid back. However, I do use exfoliating gloves or a dry brush to do upwards strokes with a body brush. It’s really invigorating and makes your skin glowy. There’s no way I’d do it every night, but I make sure to at least once a week, usually on a Sunday.

On Bedtime Beauty Essentials…

I keep my face oils in my nightstand drawer because I like to take my time massaging them into skin before bed.  And, I love a lavender-based sheet spray. Every time I make the bed I spray down the sheets with This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray.
