Amanda Harrington Tanning Mousse – We Tried It Out

When it comes to sunless tanning, there aren’t many who know more than tanning artist Amanda Harrington. So much so, the likes of Sienna Miller, Cara and Poppy Delevingne and Stella Maxwell all call upon her skills when they need to get their glow on. When I heard her innovative range of products were coming to Space NK just in time for skin-baring weather, I was keen to try them out. Particularly the Bronzing Body Mousse that gets rave reviews from the A-listers.

You’ve probably experienced your fair share of underwhelming, patchy self-tans – whether it was a DIY attempt or a professional with a tanning gun. One of the main reasons Amanda and her range of at-home products have been such a hit is that she not only created fool-proof formulas that provide a warm, natural-looking glow, but she revolutionised how you apply the tan with The Bespoke Body Contouring Technique by Amanda Harrington™.

With my recent holiday being cancelled, the timing of the Amanda Harrington London range arriving at Space NK couldn’t have been more perfect. Here’s what I thought of the Bronzing Body Mousse

The Formula

Creating a kind-to-skin formula was essential for Amanda, so the entire range is packed with ingredients you’d usually expect to see elsewhere in your skincare routine. The mousse contains both hyaluronic acid and aloe vera, so I knew it was going to be deeply hydrating. This is something I always look for in a self-tan product as they wear much better and you don’t get that horrid peeling look.

When it comes to the shade selection, don’t expect your usual light, medium or dark offering. Instead, the three colour choices are much subtler and have been expertly made to suit different skin tones and offer results similar to how your skin would naturally tan. Amanda also gave some thought to the names to make it easier to find the one for you. I opted for Natural Honey, but there’s Natural Rose and Natural Olive too.

The Application

Now this is probably where this product differs the most from previous tanning products I’ve tried. Rather than applying with a mitt or glove (or sock as I have been known to use!), you use a brush. Amanda decided this was the perfect tool for the job since her father was an artist and taught her to paint. She realised it made sense to apply tanning products this way as it’s easier to control and I have to agree. I used the Small Body Brush and the product went on evenly and buffed in seamlessly.

The Results

I have to say I was pretty impressed. I applied a light coat the first evening and another the following evening and the colour was great. The mousse itself was really blendable and had a whipped texture, which meant I didn’t need to be concerned about any drips over the bathroom. For me, the true test was whether it lived up to the non-transferrable and odourless promise and it did. My white bed sheets were still white and my boyfriend didn’t do his usual “ewww are you wearing fake tan”. This will definitely be a new addition to my bathroom cabinet this summer.
