The Wind Down
It depends on what we are doing in the day, but generally [I start winding down] around 7-7.30pm. I sometimes work on Sundays so really cherish the ones I am off! We love hosting and so a BBQ or Sunday roast at ours with friends is a regular thing. I also love watering the garden and all of our indoor plants in the early evening, this for me is the start of the wind down; I love it and find it really calming. I aim to have everything done before we sit down for dinner and then watch our favourite boxsets. At the moment it’s The Handmaid’s Tale which starts at 9pm which is the benchmark. I like to have all of my beauty routine done and then into comfy clothes before sitting down. I love the feeling when it’s all done! Total zen. I like to do a home facial and exfoliate my body on a Sunday, the things I don’t get a chance to do daily. I feel great for doing it and I like spending time using hero beauty products and trying new ones along the way.Without a doubt I light 2-3 candles every night, it instantly helps me relax.. The smell of the candle scents combined is heavenly. My favourites are Benjoin and Baies from Diptyque. I spend a fortune on candles! I love candlelight and lots of lamps on in the house I have lots of playlists on Spotify and I always make sure I have listened to My Discover Weekly before the new one launches on a Monday. I have one playlist called Old Era and it’s lots of old classic soul and feel good disco. I tend to do all of my beauty routine in my makeup studio. It has everything in there I need, it’s my little sanctuary. Before I start my beauty routine I go through my emails, make a list of things I need to do for the week and have a tidy up in my makeup room so it’s all set for Monday. I feel so much better when I’ve done this and prepped for the start of the week. I feel good on a Sunday night, cosy and super chilled.
I like to do a home facial, starting with a nice deep cleanse with Sarah Chapman Skinesis Ultimate Cleanse, I love how this lifts all makeup and it softens and smoothes out the skin surface. I then exfoliate with an Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel from Dr Dennis Gross. These little sachets instantly brighten my complexion and help target fine lines. I also love the Alpha Beta Gradual Glow Pads. I exfoliate the lips too using By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Scrub. I then move onto eye cream, at the moment I’m using the Kate Sommerville +Retinol Firming Eye Cream and then I apply the Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask to my face and neck. I always do a Sunday mask, either the Sisley Black Rose or Kiehl’s Instant Renewal Concentrate Mask. I use a jade roller to really push the product into the skin. I leave this on overnight, my skin feels amazing in the morning! I have good skin and I’ve always really looked after it. I do lots of skin focused tutorials on my Instagram which are really popular. Skin is the most important thing before any makeup goes on. If the skin is on point, everything else just falls into place. Less is more is my theory when it comes to skincare and makeup. I think it’s essential that everyone has a regime that works for them personally.
I like to make time for a Sunday night bath. I always tell myself to have more baths but the week flies by and it’s Sunday again! I definitely spend longer on everything on a Sunday night as I tend to have quick daily showers. Sundays I can spend up to an hour in the bath, listening to Podcasts and music. I like to add some magnesium flakes into the bath and then soak my body, it helps to calm muscles and joints. I also love to add some Aromatherapy Associates bath oil so it’s like a full on skin and body cocktail! Sunday night I do a full body exfoliation. I use the Frank Body Original Coffee Scrub all over my body before I get in the bath and use the Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Smoothing Oil-to-Foam Cleanser. It’s amazing all over the legs before shaving. I am obsessed with the Laura Mercier body creams. I’ve used the Ambre Vanilla Body Creme for years and people always ask me what fragrance I’m wearing and usually it’s just this. My boyfriend always gets me a new one for my birthday and Christmas. I moisturise my body every day as soon as I get out the shower. It’s become such a normal part of my daily routine and I do it so quickly in 2-3 minutes. I wash my hair every Sunday night and use a hair mask, and then rough dry it and twist it into a bun before bed. I love to use purple shampoo to tone down any brassy or copper shades. I keep the shampoo on for longer on a Sunday to get my hair a really icy blonde. I use a hair mask on a Sunday night, the Living Proof Restore Mask does wonders for my bleached hair. Once or twice a week I use the Colour Wow Dream Coat which literally transforms the texture of my hair and it tames frizz instantly. I use the Bumble and bumble Brilliantine through the ends, this is another must-have for my hair, I’ve used it for years. I like to get my hair done so it’s quick and easy to style on a Monday morning.
I like to aim to get into bed around 11pm. I’m definitely a night owl. I could stay up way later but I’ve recently made a conscious decision to go to bed earlier, switch my phone off and read. At the moment I’m reading Gone Girl and I’m hooked! I love relaxing scents and oils, This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray is magic! I carry the little rollerball travel size one in my makeup bag and use throughout the day. I leave my phone in the spare room switched off as I find it helps me sleep better. I brush my teeth and add my Invisalign brace and then when I’m in bed I have a hand cream next to my bed which always goes on before I switch off the light. I take magnesium and cod liver oil before bed. I love to make a camomile tea with honey about an hour before bed; even the smell makes me feel sleepy. I can actually function well on very little sleep but 7-8 hours is ideal. I can sleep for longer but it makes me a bit lethargic if I sleep for too long. I love sleep, I love my bed [and I’m] really particular about my pillows. They have to be medium-sized and not too big or bulky. I sleep right through and usually wake up naturally around 6.30am but always go back to sleep. The best feeling!
I set my alarm for 7am and I tend to snooze a bit. Our bedroom gets light really early which I like as the sunlight naturally wakes me before my alarm. I could definitely sleep for longer but I feel fresh and productive. I go to the gym early when I can and usually on a Monday. I’m definitely a snoozer but I’m working on it! The first thing I do is put on my Roberts radio, I’m loving Magic Soul FM at the moment. I go downstairs, put the kettle on and drink a cold pint of water and make a fresh mint tea. I then jump in the shower. I’m trying to make a conscious effort to not check my phone for the first 30 minutes of the day.
