Susan Yara's Skincare Routine Pre-Naturium...

I had a stereotypical skincare routine in my 20s, meaning I used makeup wipes, over exfoliated my skin, sunbathed, and never used sunscreen. Once I got into my 30s, I realised I had to take a better approach. I discovered the magic of double cleansing in the evening, committed to vitamin C in the morning, added a retinoid at night, and started wearing sunscreen every day—all of which has been game-changing for me.

My routine hasn’t really changed much since launching Naturium as we offer a good range of products for all skin types. It’s important to have options since skincare is so personal, and that applies to me too. But since starting Naturium, I can say I try more new types of ingredients just to see if we might want to offer it to our customers.

The Beauty Products Susan Yara Uses...

In the morning, I keep it fairly simple: a splash of water on my face, NATURIUM Vitamin C Complex Serum, £22.00, NATURIUM Multi-peptide Moisturizer, £21.00, and whichever sunscreen I decide to use that day.

At night, I always start with a double cleanse, and especially love NATURIUM Purple Ginseng Cleansing Balm, £21.00, NATURIUM Niacinamide Cleansing Gelee 3%, £18.50, and then one of our retinoids. One of my favourite Naturium products is our Retinol Complex Cream because it’s moisturising and cuts out a step in my routine, but lately I have been switching between our NATURIUM Retinol Complex Serum, £22.00 and our NATURIUM Retinaldehyde Cream Serum, £32.00.

My skin has been really dry with the change of seasons, so I’ve been double moisturising at night with our NATURIUM Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture Cream, £27.00 and a few nights a week, I add our Intense Overnight Sleeping Cream on top!

I saw a big gap in the market for clinically effective, luxury quality products at reasonable prices. You either had the option of super affordable brands, but lost the luxury aspect of it, especially in the texture and finishes of the products, or you had to spend way too much money to find products you enjoy. You won’t see a change with your skin if you’re too precious with your products and don’t want to “waste” them because they’re expensive. Consistency is key, but that doesn’t happen if you don’t have the budget to repurchase your routine when you finish it.

It’s always surprising to learn that many brands spend more money on the packaging of their products than they do on their actual formulas. We love to use new innovation and technology when it comes to ingredients, so a lot of people ask us how we can afford to do that, yet sell our products at relatively low prices. The answer is—we put most of our budget into the formula. It’s not exactly the norm in the beauty industry.

I often say it’s our Retinol Complex Cream because it’s a one-and-done nighttime routine product, but that’s not available in the UK yet! Instead, our Plant Ceramide Rich Moisturiser is definitely one of my go-to products. It’s an incredibly nourishing moisturizer that melts into your skin like butter. It’s my savior when my skin is irritated or dry, but also just an all-around great product that everyone can benefit from. I even love it under makeup!
