The Vegan-Friendly Skincare Products To Know About
No longer just a faddy trend, veganism is a way of life for so many and not just when it comes to their food choices. While you may not adopt a plant-based diet, you can look to make your beauty routine a little greener. Not only do vegan-friendly skincare products offer noteworthy skin benefits, they help the environment too.
But first up, what is vegan skincare? “It means that there are no animal ingredients, no animal by-products and no animal-derived products,” says Mathilde Thomas, co-founder of Caudalie. You won’t find ingredients such as lanolin, collagen, squalene and beeswax to name a few. Instead, you’ll find all-natural alternatives, including fruit and plant extracts which can be much gentler on your skin.
For this reason vegan skincare can be a great option for those with more sensitive or allergy-prone skin. The formulas are also less likely to aggravate any skin conditions you may have and you can expect far less irritation. What’s more, they’re better for the environment too and you’ll often find they’re packaged more sustainably. Here are five vegan-friendly skincare products we have been loving recently...
Caudalie
Resveratrol Lift Firming Cashmere Cream, £ 28,60
For Plumper, Firmer Skin
Packed with all-natural vegan collagen and hyaluronic acid, Caudalie's nourishing Resveratrol Lift Firming Cashmere Cream really helps to firm and plump skin, softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s also lightly fragranced with a refreshing scent of basil, lemongrass, thyme and orange blossom. What we love most (aside from a fresher looking complexion) is the packaging itself. It is made with 100% recyclable plastic and glass.
Odacité
Bioactive Rose Gommage, £ 23,20
For Reviving Dull, Tired Skin
Never heard of a 'gommage' before? It is French for ‘to erase’ and this non-abrasive facial peel does just that to any lingering dead skin cells and impurities. The trick is to let the fruit enzymes, hyaluronic acid and rosewater infused gel semi-dry before rolling it off with your fingers. If that sounds too messy for your liking you can also leave it to dry fully and rinse off with warm water. Either way, this gentle facial peel works wonders for reviving and smoothing out dull skin. It's worth noting that Odacite’s entire range is both vegan-friendly and cruelty free.
Herbivore
Prism Exfoliating Glow Serum, £ 28,80
For A Smooth, Healthy Glow
With a potent blend of plant-derived 12% AHAs and 3% willow bark-derived BHAs, Herbivore's supercharged Prism Exfoliating Glow Serum helps to slough away dry, dead skin. If you've always been wary of exfoliating serums, this formula is the perfect starting point as it’s also packed with aloe water and rose to soothe and prevent dryness. Plus, it contains kakadu plum extract which is a rich source of vitamin C for an extra boost of radiance.
Kora Organics
Noni Bright Vitamin C Serum, N/A
For A Dose Of Vitamin C
With supermodel and founder Miranda Kerr eating a mostly plant-based diet, it’ll come as no surprise that Kora Organics is a vegan beauty brand. This is one of our favourite serums from the range and the perfect way to include a daily dose of vitamin C into your skincare routine. With acerola cherry, orange and lemon peel, as well as kakadu plum, the vitamin C superfruit complex helps to plump, firm and even out your skin tone.
Drunk Elephant
T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, £ 45,60
For Resurfacing Skin Overnight
Wake up to better skin with this hardworking, overnight serum. The AHA-infused formula helps to resurface your skin. But, what we really love about this particular vegan-friendly serum is that it enhances the absorption of your other products whilst you sleep. If you want to smooth out any fine lines, pigmentation and enlarged pores, without worrying about redness or dryness, this is a must-have. Try a thin layer on cleansed skin every other night or as a targeted spot treatment.
Biossance
Squalane + Omega Repair Cream, £ 46,00
For Intense Hydration
If you want to seriously clean up your skincare, Biossance is a brand to invest in. The formulas are vegan-friendly and the packaging is recyclable, right down the to ink the brand uses on its labels. The Squalane + Omega Repair Cream is a firm favourite among Space NK customers as the nourishing formula has a cocooning effect on our skin without feeling heavy or mask like. It's the perfect product to massage in when the temperatures drop and your cheeks feel chapped.
