Space NK’s Most Searched For Beauty Terms Of The Year
10. Makeup Bag
We might not have worn much makeup this year, but we did have plenty of time to organise our haul. The term ‘makeup bag’ was searched for nearly 5000 times. Our go-to makeup bag (and the bestselling) is still the Space NK Travel Bag. It’s chic but practical and the faux leather is wipeable, while the clear PVC panel makes it easier to stay organised. If you have a bigger beauty stash, you can upgrade to the large version.
9. Face Wash
While our interest in applying makeup might have dipped, our enthusiasm for skincare thrived. The mundane task of cleansing our skin became a much-needed ritual and unsurprisingly, a lot of us went on the hunt for a new face wash to fit the bill. While Eve Lom Cleanser and Fresh Soy Face Cleanser retained their bestselling top spots, newcomer E-Rase Milki Micellar Water by Drunk Elephant proved more than popular. We use it in the mornings when we want a speedy cleanse.
8. Bath Oil
Spending more time at home also allowed us to indulge in our bodycare routines. Evening showers were swapped for long, indulgent baths and we filled our bathroom cabinets with relaxing lotions and potions. Prior to March bath oil might have purchased for gifting purposes only, but lockdown elevated it to a self-gifting essential. Olverum’s iconic Bath Oil, Susanne Kaufmann’s calming Bath Oil For The Senses and Aromatherapy Associates’ therapeutic Inner Strength Bath & Shower Oil are among our favourites. If you don’t have a bath, Diptyques Do Son Shower Oil is a luxurious equivalent for your shower.
7. Body Lotion
Continuing the bodycare theme, ‘body lotion’ was the seventh most searched for beauty term this year. The days of a quick slap of cream on elbows and knees before you rushed out the door were put on pause and we embraced a routine of head-to-toe moisturising. The dry, scaly skin of winters past was replaced with smooth, soft limbs thanks to the likes of Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream and Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille Souffle Body Crème.
6. Medik8
Medik8 might not have joined the Space NK family until the end of September, but it still made the top 10. If you haven’t tried the expertly formulated creams, serums and treatments, it is absolutely a brand to have on your radar. While it’s known for its potent retinol and vitamin C (the C-Tetra Intense is game-changing), we’ve been blown away by the glow-getting results of Medik8 Press & Glow Daily Exfoliating PHA Tonic With Enzyme Activator.
5. Hyaluronic Acid
Few people will be surprised to see hyaluronic acid made the cut. The hydrating heavyweight has been a go-to ingredient for anyone who wants to boost their skin’s hydration levels. If you’re still not sure of what it is, we’ve created a handy guide. If you’re looking for recommendations, we love using Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum on damp skin before slathering on Drunk Elephant F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Hydrating Mask. For those who want to top up their glow, add in three drops of Tan-Luxe Super Glow Hyaluronic Self-Tan Serum too.
4. NEOM
Since NEOM launched at the beginning of September, the brand’s mood-boosting candles, diffusers and lotions have sold like hot cakes, so it’s no surprise that it made the top 10. Whether you’re in need of an energy boost or want to relax and unwind, NEOM has a ritual to suit your needs.
3. Pillow Talk
To call Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk one of the most iconic makeup shades of all time would be no understatement. We’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t love the universally flattering nude. This year, the Pillow Talk collection went from strength to strength with a new palette, the Beauty Light Wand in two shades, the smouldering Jewel Pot, an eyeliner and of course the lash-transforming mascara.
2. Lip Balm
You favourite red lipstick might have been put on the backburner to avoid a face mask catastrophe, but we were still keen to keep our lips soft and smooth this year. Lip balm was one of the most searched for and purchased products of 2020. Drunk Elephant’s buttery Lippe Balm was still a firm favourite, along with By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Care and Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm For Lips. For those looking to add a hint of colour, NARS Afterglow Lip Balm remained popular after launching in the summer.
1. Vitamin C
Vitamin C topped the most searched list again. Collectively we looked up the ingredient almost 30,000 times throughout 2020. The skin-boosting antioxidant is renowned for its smoothing and brightening powers and dermatologists regularly recommend adding a vitamin C serum into your routine, regardless of your skin type or tone. Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum, Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum and Medik8 C-Tetra Liquid Vitamin C Antioxidant Serum are the current bestselling vitamin C serums. Don’t forget to apply your SPF afterwards though.
