We Put Charlotte Tilbury's Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara To The Test
Powered by Lash Vinyl Wrap Technology, this mascara claims to coat every eyelash from root to tip for a double-lash effect, while ultra-black pigments create the optical illusion of elongated, brighter eyes. With a crescent-shaped wand, the laser-cut bristles also promise to grip, separate and curl each lash with zero clumps and optimum precision.
From the award-winning Pillow Talk Lipstick to the Hollywood Flawless Filter and Lip Cheat liner – we're left wondering if the Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara has the same Tilbury magic. We asked three Space NK team members with varying eye shapes to put the mascara to the test, here are their honest thoughts.
The Topline on Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara
• Infused with lash-plumping polymers that coat every single lash for 9x more volume
• Vinyl-black pigments create the optical illusion of bigger, brighter eyes
• Enriched with jojoba waxes to condition lashes
• Smudge-proof, flake-proof and clump-proof
Olivia's Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara Review
• Eye colour: Dark brown
• Eye shape: Round with long, straight eyelashes
I have fairly voluminous eyelashes naturally, but they are stubbornly straight, so I’m all eyes when a product promises to deliver a lengthening, long-lasting curl that doesn't fall flat. For a mascara that claims to grasp and define each individual lash, I was slightly concerned to see how the formula had collected in thick clusters along the brush. However, the initial application was surprisingly smooth; the formula was featherlight and evenly coated each lash for a separated, fanned-out finish. I also noticed no black smudges or flakes under my eyes throughout the day.
Charlotte Tilbury doesn't shy away from bold claims with this mascara, but I wouldn’t say this product provides 9x more volume than your average mascara. However, I do find this formula to be buildable, you can layer a fluttery set of natural lashes or achieve a longer length without the worry of clumping or crumbling. Also, an oil-based cleanser works to remove this product like a charm!
I will definitely continue to use this mascara, but the jet-black shade did appear quite harsh against my brown eyes and I find brown-tinted mascaras enrich and deepen the shade of my irises – if a coloured variation was released in the future, I would purchase without hesitation.
Sophia's Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara Review
• Eye colour: Light brown
• Eye shape: Hooded with sparse and short lashes
I don’t have full-bodied and fluffy lashes naturally, so I was intrigued by the Exagger-Eyes’s confident claims of magnified volume and dramatic length with just one flick of the wand. Instantly I noticed how the formula hooked and plumped my sparse lashes – even those tiny corner ones that play hide and seek – creating a wispy look that elongated and opened my eyes.
A concern I had with this mascara was the size of the brush. Dense and full, it overpowered my hooded eyes and left flecks of mascara across my lids. The creamy formula already seems quite dry so I would question the longevity of this product before it needs to be replaced. That said, the mascara’s claims have longevity– from day to night, my lashes remained lifted, thickened and darkened with no evidence of smudging. Which, if you’re disposed to watery eyes like me, is a huge plus!
The sculpted glass bottle has divided opinion in Space NK HQ due to its practicality, but I happen to love its decadence. The Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara is like an antique relic of the Art Deco period on my dressing table.
Lia's Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara Review
• Eye colour: Light green
• Eye shape: Almond shape with long, curly eyelashes
When it comes to mascaras, I tend to go for one that is lightweight and can visibly lengthen my lashes in just a few swipes. I really enjoyed the versatility of this mascara on first use; for a product that boasts intense volume, you can control the application to achieve a natural, wispy look to your lashes.
I put this mascara through its paces in the challenging environment of a music festival. Through long hours and constant movement, my lashes remained fresh, curled and clump-free with no need to reapply. The formula also dries and sets very quickly, so it’s a great option if you’re often caught in an early morning rush (like me!) and need a swift application without the worry of smudges and smears.
In short, I would describe this mascara as a true triple threat – it lengthens, curls and volumises my eyelashes significantly more than any other mascara I’ve tried. You can also apply multiple layers without the formula weighing down lashes or crossing into clump territory. It may come with quite a high price tag, but I will definitely consider re-purchasing this product in the future.
How long does Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara last?
Based on all three reviews, there’s no denying the Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara was built to last. From the frenzy of a music festival to the cramped confines of morning commutes, the mascara refused to flake or fade, keeping lashes lifted and lengthened from day to night.
Does Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara smudge?
There’s nothing worse than discovering you’ve been struck with the dreaded panda eyes. All team members agreed this mascara is long-lasting and smudge-proof, transferring no black streaks or stubborn flakes under the eyes. If you suffer from watery eyes like Sophia, it’s a reliable and resilient option.
How does Exagger-Eyes compare to Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara?
The much-loved Pillow Talk mascara is formulated with an ultra-black, glossy finish to enhance every eye colour and features a paddle-like wand that’s sculpted with diamond-shaped fibres to stretch, comb and paint each lash. In contrast, Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara has a thick, richer texture, with a more traditional bristle brush and promises to deliver not only striking length and volume, but a double-lash effect and the perfect curl that refuses to flake or fall. If you have hooded, slightly smaller eyes like Sophia or shorter lashes, you may struggle with the size of Exagger-Eyes’ bristle brush and so may be more suited to the slimmer, fine-toothed wand of Pillow Talk Push Up mascara that can grip each lash and get right to the root.
The Verdict on Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara
Has Charlotte Tilbury bottled the secret to dramatically lengthened, lifted and amplified eyelashes with Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara? All three team members were very impressed by the product’s staying power, definition and featherlight formula that evenly coats each lash with zero clumping. It also applies quickly and dries fast, which is a win for anyone who values efficiency without compromising on results. The mascara proved to be surprisingly buildable – you can sculpt a fluttery set of soft, fanned-out lashes or achieve sky-high length and volume that opens up your eyes beautifully. The best part? It’s confirmed to be flake-free and smudge-proof, too!
