Shade reviewed: Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, £23.00 in Vanilla

Summer Fridays Lip balm vanilla review

I’ll simply start by saying I’m a big fan of this product, I rotate between Vanilla, Vanilla beige and Brown Sugar. Like many people I use this product many times a day, and I just need to have a lip balm on hand at all times, especially in the winter. I would say this product is my go-to for daytime, and then I like to use something a big thicker at night, like the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.

I find the texture very smooth and lightweight, and I like that you can build it up to get more of a glossy finish. It’s definitely my favourite lip balm to use if I want that glossy finish, without feeling sticky. The finish is quite sheer, so if you want a colour payoff, I’d suggest going for something like Brown sugar.

Shade reviewed: Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, £23.00 in Iced Coffee

Summer Fridays lip balm iced coffee review

As a self-professed lip balm connoisseur, the Summer Fridays one comes at the top of my list. It’s always in one of my bags, whether it’s for day time or a night out – I love pairing this with a good lip liner to get a nice glassy finish. I also really like the applicator of this lip balm, it goes onto the lips smoothly and feels so satisfying to use.

I adore the texture of this formula, it’s very smooth, not grainy and doesn’t feel heavy on the lips. Believe me when I say I have tried my fair share of lip balms and always keep coming back to this one. For the Iced Coffee flavour, the texture is actually clear but I love the smell of it. I will definitely keep using it, each shade and scent feel like it has its own purpose, and Iced Coffee is perfect for that fresh, ‘clean girl’ vibe.

Shade reviewed: Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, £23.00 in Cherry

Summer Fridays lip balm cherry review

I may have an oily complexion, but I’m cursed with extremely dry lips – so lip hydration is absolutely key for me! Moreover, because I love a defined lip and never shy away from colour, I always look for formulas that will work well under a liquid lipstick (brownie points if it works under a classic bullet lipstick too). I’m, literally, a lipstick over a lip balm girlie!

I chose the shade Cherry because I love the option of having a bit of colour in my lip balms – especially if I’m going to wear them on their own or with a lip liner. I didn’t expect this lip balm to be the kind of formula I’d wear under a lipstick, and after trying it I can confirm I wouldn’t do so. While I found the texture lovely, it didn’t feel lightweight – I definitely felt like I had something in my lips. This didn’t bother me though – I wore it on days when I was working from home and didn’t need any colour on my lips. However, I did have to keep applying it throughout the day to get the level of hydration I wanted.

My favourite way of wearing it was with a lip liner and as a lip topper – it has a lovely gloss, so on long days of wearing a full-on lip colour I’d apply this rather than reapplying my lipstick. While the tint was very subtle, I absolutely adored the cherry flavour! Ultimately, I wouldn’t say it’s hydrating enough for my (very) drips – I’ll continue to use it on the days I want a pretty gloss and something natural, but I won’t be reaching out for any other flavours.

Shade reviewed: Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, £23.00 in Pink Sugar

Summer Fridays lip balm pink sugar review

My lips tend to get quite dry over the winter, so I usually lean towards a thick consistency like a lip mask (even during the day) to make sure my lips stay hydrated throughout the day. I heard so many people rave about the Summer Fridays one, I had to try it for myself! My first impression is that I love the texture and understand why it's called Lip Butter Balm, I love how it makes the lips look fuller and adds a glossy touch.

Pink Sugar has a slight tint but nothing major, I like that it pairs well with a lip liner or works well as a gloss on top of a lipstick. Overall, I love how it made my lips feel, they were nice and hydrated and I could really feel that it lasted longer than other lip balms I have tried before. Needless to say this makes me want to try the rest of brand, I'm sure they're just as good as this lip balm! I think this product is definitely worth the hype, I have already bought another shade and will definitely be getting more.

The team's verdict on Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm

Safe to say that this viral lip balm is approved by everyone who has tested it! From the packaging to the texture, the application and the different flavours, there's much to love about this lipcare hero. The texture is very smooth and easily melts into the lips, it doesn't feel heavy and immediately hydrates the lips deeply. The array of shades and flavours goes from sheer to tinted, if you fancy wearing it as a lip gloss. It can work as your favourite skincare product, as well as an addition to your makeup routine, paired with your favourite lip liner.

More from Summer Fridays

While the Summer Fridays lip balm is the hottest product from the brand at the moment, there are so many other products that the team raves about. If you like your lip products, the Dream Lip Oil could be a good one for you "What I would recommend is Summer Fridays Dream Lip Oil – I love the colour payoff of the richer shades; they look fab over lip products and feel amazing on the lips!" says Vanessa.

If you want to explore the skincare line from the brand, the Jet Lag Mask is the best place to start, or you could also give the Vitamin C serum a try - "Their products are simple, effective, and focused on hydration. I’m excited to try more from the brand" says Olivia.
