Takami Daily Renewing Skin Peel review
The need-to-know Japanese skincare brand Takami has finally landed in the UK, exclusively at Space NK. Championing clinic level results at home, the expertise of dermatologist Dr Hiroshi Takami’s range has taken Asia by storm, particularly the bestselling Daily Renewing Soft Peel Serum.

During a time where so many of us are prioritising at-home routines over invasive procedures, clinic-led products are coming out on top. Designed to improve your skin's texture and tone with consistent use, the Soft Peel Serum gently exfoliates to encourage cell turnover, revealing fresh, luminous skin without any irritation or redness. In keeping with the brand's core philosophy, the formula takes a ‘less is more’ approach, with a gentle blend of ingredients that deliver results.

If you’re seeking a dose of simplicity within your skincare routine, this J-beauty icon comes highly recommended by beauty editors and ‘skinfluencers’ across the world. We asked our head office team, including our skincare buyer who championed the product internally, to test this transformative treatment for 28 days. Keep reading to find out how they got on.

Julie's Takami Soft Peel review

Julie's Takami Daily Renewing Skin Peel review

As Space NK’s Senior Skincare Buyer, this serum has been on my radar for a long time and as I've brought it to the shelves, I was keen to give my verdict! I am an advanced user of most acids, but I've overdone it recently at the detriment of my barrier, so a gentle product like this is just what I'm after.

Despite the watery texture, it glides on very nicely if you warm it up with your hands, pat it in and leave to dry for a few minutes. Rubbing it on straight to the skin won't achieve the results you want, so you need to apply with a pat method to increase the effectiveness.

By the end of the first week, my skin 100% felt smoother! Considering this is described as a peel, it was very gentle. With a potency equivalent 30% glycolic acid I expected a purge, but I didn’t, so I'd say this is suitable for sensitive skin.

By the end of week 4, my skin felt less congested and bumpy, which was a very gradual change but for something so gentle, I wasn’t expecting miracles. The brand champions consistency for optimal skin health and the citrus fruit extracts mean it's less harsh than a traditional exfoliator.

I think this serum is best for someone who has rough or uneven texture, clogged pores, blackheads, dullness, and someone who wants gentle yet effective exfoliation. I do think if you are patient, it really drives results, so I cannot wait to continue my Takami journey.

Tanya's Takami Soft Peel review

Tanya's Takami Daily Renewing Skin Peel review

I began using this serum with the hopes of clearer, smoother looking skin. Thanks to its water-based formula, the essence layered very well with the rest of my routine, so I didn’t have to sacrifice any of my other products. I found the ultra-thin texture absorbed pretty much instantly, it’s quite slippy but I could honestly see my skin drink the hydration up.

During the first week, straight after applying my skin felt fresher and looked more radiant. I am fairly sun sensitive, so my skin felt more impacted by the sun, so I was definitely more cautious with applying my SPF and staying in the shade.

After the third week of so, my skin was more radiant and is beginning to look more even. My skin definitely felt more smooth! I don’t like harsh exfoliators so I’m very happy with the strength of this. I also like how it doesn’t leave behind any stickiness like other exfoliating liquids do. I’ll reach for this more often in the winter, as my skin gets drier.

Dotty's Takami Soft Peel review

Dotty's Takami Daily Renewing Skin Peel review

Any serum from a J-beauty brand that’s offering brightness and added hydration is something I want to try, so I was very excited by this brands arrival. I must say, I was surprised at how watery the serum felt, but it does absorb really quickly so I'd recommend it to people who have oily skin. Full disclosure, I have only used this serum for three weeks as I picked up my sample a week later, so my imagery is a week behind Julie and Tanya's.

Unfortunately, I did experience a bit of a purge whilst my skin adjusted to the product, in the form of a few pimples. This was quite surprising as at the same time, I'd say it’s quite gentle!

I persevered and a week later, my skin felt more replenished and less tight post-cleanse than it usually would, which is a great sign. I will keep wearing this serum in order to see more progress.

Our Verdict On Takami's Daily Renewing Soft Peel

Overall, the gentle exfoliation showed promising signs of progress for our reviewers.

THE PROS: The lightweight texture absorbed quickly and slots in well with your existing routine. All of our reviewers reported promising signs that made them want to continue using the serum, including reduced congestion and brighter, smoother skin.

THE CONS: Although Julie found the serum gentle, Tanya reported heightened sensitivity to the sun and Dotty experienced a slight break out. If this happens, you can always use it every other day and work your way back up to the recommended guidelines.
