How To Glow With Gold Makeup

Highlighting Your Skin
Don’t let the tin-man style contouring on social media put you off using highlighter. Just a hint of gold swept across your cheekbones offers both definition and radiance. The trick is to find the right shade for your skin tone.
“Paler skin tones should opt for light, cool shades of gold can flatter paler skin tones,” says makeup artist Saskia Wright, who used Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, £31.20 on Sarah’s skin. “Apply along the top of your cheekbones, but start will a small amount and build the coverage up to achieve a finish that works for you.” We also love Hourglass Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick, £36.00 in Gold Flash and Surratt Torche Lumière, £40.00 for that natural pearlescent finish.
“Richer shades of gold and rose gold look gorgeous as highlight on deeper skin tones,” says Sarah Jane Wai, who focused the gold on the apples of Sasha’s cheeks to create that glow-from-within. Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand in Pillow Talk, £24.00 in Pillow Talk Medium/Deep works particularly well for this.

Brightening Your Eyes
The most effortless way to brighten your eyes is with a dusting of gold eyeshadow, it opens up your entire face beautifully. “Paler skin tones should try cooler Champagne golds, while deeper skin tones should look to warmer, richer golds,” advises Saskia. “The texture is important too. Pearl textures offer a softer finish, while sparkling, glitter textures can be worn alone or over other eyeshadows.” Both RMS Beauty Eye Polish, N/A and have an array of gorgeous shades.
If you want to accentuate your eye shape, a gold liner is essential. “Applying a gold eyeliner to the inner corners of the eye will add light and make your eyes look bigger and brighter,” says Sarah-Jane, who created the striking liner look on Sasha using Charlotte Tilbury Double Ended Liner, £20.00. Look to Laura Mercier Inner Eye Definer, N/A in Black Gold for a cooler gold tone. Don’t forget to finish with a coating of Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara, £12.80.

Accentuating Your Lips
Gold is one of the most versatile shades and there are a few ways you can enhance your lips. If you’re looking for a wash of gold, you need to create a neutral base for the shade to pop. On Sarah, Saskia layered over a nude lip colour to make the gold sing. For more of a subtle take, incorporate a touch of glitter. “A gloss with a gold sparkle in is super-flattering and catches the light beautifully,” says Sarah-Jane.
“Regardless of your skin tone or age, a gorgeous gold highlight pressed onto your Cupid’s bow gives a fuller-looking appearance instantly,” adds Saskia. This is where Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Wand, £24.00 comes in handy again.
