The Space NK Verdict On Olaplex No.9 Hair Serum

The Space NK Verdict On Olaplex No.9 Hair Serum
Olaplex is one of our bestselling haircare brands and for good reason. The No.3 Hair Perfector has a cult-like following across all hair types, but particularly amongst those who bleach, colour and straighten their manes. The No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner are two other bestselling products at Space NK.

While Olaplex has nailed its wet range, the brand’s offering of styling products has been light on the ground with just the No.7 Bonding Oil, which is fabulous for both fine and thick hair by the way. The tide is changing though and this month Olaplex has launched No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum. If you’re familiar with Olaplex you’ll know that its debut hair serum was never going to be your usual, run-of-mill formula. For those new to the brand, it is driven by two things: science and results. After four weeks of trialling to the product, here my Olaplex No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum review.

The Top Line On Olaplex No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum

Olaplex No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum, £28.00 is more than just a styling product, it is a weightless, leave-in hair treatment. In true Olaplex style, No.9 doesn’t stop at boosting shine, it detangles, provides heat protection up to 232C and acts as a pollution shield.

Everything You Need To Know About Olaplex’s Hair Serum

Olaplex is a brand that prides itself on catering to all hair types – whether you have fine hair or textured. Its debut hair serum promises to dial up shine, strengthen and protect from heat and pollution. Central to the formula is Olaplex’s patented single ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, which helps to strengthen and rebuild broken bonds. The brand has also included red algae to help protect hair from the effects of pollution.

As someone with long, thick, frizzy hair that sits on the coarse side, I rely heavily on serums and oils to balance out my love of blow-drying and straightening. As a fan of both Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask, £28.00, which I use weekly, and , I was intrigued by the serum, but perhaps not quite as excited as the rest of my Instagram feed. The oil genuinely ticks all my hair styling needs – or so I thought.

What struck me immediately was the gel-like texture and how quickly it absorbed into damp hair. It wasn’t gloopy, sticky or heavy, in fact, once I’d run my fingers through my hair it felt like the serum had disappeared. What was noticeable was how easily my brush cut through. With long, wavy hair, the ends are prone to tangling and knotting when wet, even after using conditioner and a hair mask. I’m not sure my hair felt or looked dramatically shinier once it dry, but I would say it felt less frazzled from the blow-drying and straightening.

The Verdict On Olaplex No.9 Hair Serum

If you’re looking for instant shine-boosting, frizz-smoothing results, I would point you in the direction of Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil. It is seriously lightweight and doesn’t leave even the finest of hair feeling greasy or heavy, and it can be used on damp or dry tresses. However, if you’re looking for stronger, healthier hair in the long-run, I seriously recommend incorporating Olaplex No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum, £28.00 into your routine. I’ve found it much easier than spritzing my hair with heat protection and noticed that my ends haven’t looked frazzled or split since using it. It’s also seriously good at detangling knots, making it ideal for not just you but little ones too.

More From Olaplex

While you can absolutely use Olaplex No.9 on its own, the brand recommends using the full system to really reap the bond building benefits of its magic ingredient. Our buyer, Charlotte Giddeon-Powell is, like me, a huge fan of the hair mask and you should read her Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisturise Mask review.
