We Asked Two People To Review This Frizz-Smoothing Hair Oil

If there was any Sol de Janeiro creation that captured the label's jovial spirit, I would say the Brazilian Joia Strengthening and Smoothing Shampoo would be it. With fine and chemically coloured hair, my tresses often bear the burden of heavy, sulphate-rich formulas, but this ….. marvel left my mane feeling featherlight and soaked in a glossy lustre that glistened like rays of sunlight. Building to a creamy lather, this shampoo neatly purified my scalp of any product buildup and pollution, dousing my hair in a deluge of sumptuous hydration that endured against environmental aggressors before wash day was quite clearly demanded!

With the Brazilian Glossy Nourishing Hair oil, it’s almost as if Sol De Janeiro took a trip to the sun, pouring its brilliance into this little bottle of liquid gold. Enriched with a sumptuous cocktail of Brazilian patauá, pequi and buriti oils – alongside nourishing antioxidants – it floods hair in a much-needed hit of hydration, promising to smooth pesky tangles and tame frizz for up to 72 hours.

I’ve been using this hair oil for six months and will absolutely repurchase as it’s become a staple in my routine. I do have one niggly issue with Olaplex’s hair oil and it’s with its packaging. It’s not as travel-friendly as I would like and can leak slightly leaving the bottle feeling greasy, along with any other products in my washbag. I now wrap it in a freezer bag when I’m on the move!

Victoria’s Olaplex Hair Oil Review

• Hair type: Thick, wavy and dry

• Hair concern: Frizz, split ends and dry mid-lengths and ends

• The product:

Like Yasmin, hair oil plays a starring role in my routine. I was my hair once a week and use an oil to nourish and smooth my mid-lengths and ends. I’ll also use hair oil mid-week if my hair starts to look frizzy or dull. I’m not hugely fussy about which hair oil I use as the thick texture can handle light and heavy weight oils. When I first saw the Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil, I assumed I’d get through it within a month or so, but it actually took nine months.

The oil itself is easily one of the best I’ve ever tried as it’s nourishing enough to ease frizz and leave my mid-lengths and ends feeling and looking more groomed, yet it’s also lightweight enough to use nearer my roots to smooth the frizz halo. I would definitely be as likely to recommend this hair oil to someone with finer hair as well as thicker locks.

I agree with Yasmin on the leaky bottle though and I would also add that the dispenser can be quite frustrating if you have thicker hair as it takes a while to get enough oil out. On the flipside, I imagine this would be helpful for those with finer hair who require less oil.

The Verdict On Olaplex No 7 Bonding Hair Oil

While both Yasmin and Victoria have their gripes with the packaging, it’s fair to say that Olaplex’s hair oil is very good and most importantly, it works on different hair thicknesses. The bottle is small, but the formula goes a long way and depending on your hair type, it could last you up to a year which is good value for money.

For those, like Victoria, who use more than the average amount of hair oil will be pleased to learn that Olaplex has brought out a jumbo size too.
